I posted this in RMXC last week but got no replies, so I'm trying here. Sorry for the cross post, but I did delete the other one.
Does anyone know of any places close(ish) to Denver to go 4 wheeling in the winter ?
Thanks.

Do you mean Rampart Range Road ?
I tried there in early December and it was closed. I was so frustrated.

In early January, I rode from Monument across Mt. Herman Road to the instersection of Rampart Range Road. I drove Rampart Range Road a couple miles south (turning at 393 into Woodland Park). A sign noted that Rampart was closed north of Mt. Herman Road, but not south. That following 13 mile stretch to Colorado Springs may be open. Friday and are Sunday are projected to be in the 50's --- there may be a puddle of two to run. ------------------ Dan. 2001 Solar Yellow SE 4 x 4. If its open to Garden of the Gods then I think there are some rockier side roads.

Hey I was just in that area umm maybe 2 weekends ago(Garden of the Gods). We tried to do the Hacket Gulch run for the first time this season and they remade or fixed the trail. That by far is one of my favorite trails to run. The only problem is when they reworked it, it is no longer possible to take the "cheater" sidecuts. You can do this run but only with lockers and/or a winch. There is also a really cool run up by Downieville/Georgetown area. Not sure of the official name, we just call it the boulder field. We have only done it once and it took us 8 hours to go 6 miles. But It is still open and looks like the sun seems to melt alot of the snow pretty quickly. I checked it out briefly after a day of snowboarding. If you have the trail book all the info is on those two runs and they pretty challenging and fun at the same time.

Next weekend is out for me. Got the ma-in-la in town. Hmmm... what better way to entertain, tho... I am up for a run this Sunday. Monument to near Woodland Park to Garden of the Gods, anyone? ------------------ Dan. 2001 Solar Yellow SE 4 x 4. Exploring the Rockies "The world's gone to the mall in a hellbasket."
