its all about your comfort levels and experience off road, i was blown away by my Xterra when i first bought it at what it can do, even with stock tires, i thought i was hurting it where in fact it eased through mud holes and over rocks...granted this article is using an OR model with the locker, but i still thought it was a good read, just goes to show how much the X truly is capable out of the showroom

That is a cool article. That guy's rating sysetm is skewed. A stock Xterra can traverse anything up to most 4's. A true 5 is impassable to anything but the most modified vehicles.

also hook up with a local club, if you're new to wheeling they'll show you the ropes and wont let you get over your head, you will be suprised at what your truck can do

If you've got the diff locker (I don't know how the '05+ models run) then you've got a pretty kick-ass wheeling machine.

Rock sliders would be a very good idea to help protect your rig. Check out http://www.shrockworks.com

Oh crap.. I just noticed you're in Maricopa... you are sitting smack in the middle of a HUGE Nissan offroad community. You couldn't possibly be in a better spot if you want to offroad a Nissan! Check out the SWANKy forum at http://www.nissan4wheelers.com . Tell 'em Kaiser sent ya.

I'll be driving out there in March for the AZ-6 run laugh

Yeah Dan, Gabe's a busy guy. I'm sure he meant to get back in touch with you. There's an excellent co-club event in fact this Jan 14th. It's a 2wd roadtrip out and about to see some ghost towns and abandoned mining sites. Should be a blast. The AZXC monthly meeting's coincidentally the night before (see the club site), and a few of us are even headed up to the "WEROC- Putup, or shut up" event tomorrow. (thread in AZXC forum) Should be a great day to watch tube buggies fall off big rocks [ThumbsUp]
