I've usually respected the Raiders as a team but this guy gives them a bad image and is clearly way way off his rocker. What's next ? suing teams with black in their uniform? School or pop warner teams named the raiders? or just any team that starts with the letter "R". I say Baker act the old bastard and bring in some new blood.

I believe that the Raiders tried at one time to block the Bucs use of the pirate logo but were unsuccessful. That said, Davis' recent action indicates 1 of 2 things to me - either this is a "classic Davis" where he has a bug up his ass and is going to find a way to beat the league in his own state or more likely it's because of the fact that the Glazers may want to get a football team in LA.
There have been rumors that the Glazers are interested in buying the Dodgers but can't while they own an NFL team in another state (NFL rules). That means if the Glazers want to carry out plans to buy the Dodgers they have to either find a way to move the Bucs to LA or sell the Bucs. If they sell the Bucs the feeling is that they will try to bring an NFL team to LA.

Plus who's to say that the Panthers don't try to pick up and move to LA in the future.

Davis is very protective of these 2 items. He prides himself of the fact that when the words "The Silver & Black" are said (even in many places outside of the U.S.) the first thing that comes to mind is the Oakland Raiders. Davis has pointed out in the past that almost every other reference to a team's color(s) carries with it the name of the team (for example, "Yankee Pinstripes", "Dodger Blue", etc.).

There's also the possibility that Davis may be thinking that if he wins this suit at the state level, that will give him momentum in his upcoming re-trial against the league in CA where he's suing them for $1.2 billion in damages over the rights to the LA market.

Hell guys, when Chuck Noll referred to the Raider secondary in the 70's as being comprised of a "criminal element," the Raiders sued him - thus forcing Noll to show up in a CA courtroom to defend the charge.

Were the Raiders awarded monetary damages for having been slandered? No. But Noll had to eat crow when he acknowledged to the Court (after segments of Steeler game films were shown by Raider lawyers during the "trial") that the Steelers were guilty of the same things he accused the Raiders of.

Anyway, there appears to be a sound method to Davis' "madness" with respect to his actions against both the Bucs and Panthers.
