Charlotte Announces Top Three Team Name Choices
The Charlotte NBA expansion franchise has narrowed the choice for the team’s nickname to three finalists -- Charlotte Bobcats, Charlotte Dragons and Charlotte Flight. The team name and logo will be introduced to Charlotte in June.

What lame ass names.

Maybe they chose that name because NBA games drag on and on and on.

Personally, I like the name "Flight". That's a pretty cool name for a basketball team.

So why are they getting a new team, when the old one just moved?

That is exactly what I was saying. They never supported the Hornets, and now they are getting a new franchise, when the first one couldn't make it there. I understand why they want one in the market. NC is a huge basketball area. College basketball at least. What they need is a star player from one of the local schools on the pro team. Had Michael Jordan played for the Hornets they would have sold out every game. Just seems like the NBA is throwing good money after bad to me.

I think Charlotte had a problem with the owner, plus the whole new arena idea. When Ray went shopping for a new city and lied about it, that pissed people off.

Hell if I know. I was just curious. That makes sense. If the owner is a scumbag and treats the city poorly, or makes outrageous demands then I can see why the fans would not show up. Hopefully the new franchise will have better luck, and uniforms that aren't so hideous.

The Charlotte Travelers since that's what NBA players do best. :p

Ok, so maybe it's more the fault of the referees for letting this basic rule go unenforced, but watching guys take 3 or 4 steps before shooting is more torturous for me than the 20 minutes it takes to play the last 2 minutes of each half.

They also considered the name Spiders, and there was talk the arena would be called Charlottes web.

Charlotte actually lead the league in attendance for 7 or 8 consecutive years. People just got tired of the owners bullshit ( letting Alonzo Mourning, and Larry Johnson go, getting sued for sexual harrasment by a cheerleader, and many other things).

There's also a chance Jordan will be involved this time. He's not going back to Washington, and is good friends with the new owner of the team.

If this becomes true, then it's all the more reason to name the team the Charlotte Flight.

People here in Charlotte are just a little bit different than in other parts of the country. We felt like the owners treated the city who had already given so much support over the first few years like dirt. Woolridge had a bad rep after his stint on Court Tv with the cheerleader (who was hot, I'll give him that), and folks here just shut the owners out. What better way to do it than to stop supporting the team with our ticket dollars? IN other parts of this country, people would have been quick to forgive and forget when the team started winning. Not here. We got pissed, and stopped going.

So, off to New ORleans, which has a per capita income about half of Charlotte's. Good luck filling that new cathedral up down there...

It wasn't about economics. But it is about Economics that the NBA wants another team here. They came crawling when Charlotte requested another team. Just like the NFL. People here have money. These banks don't pay great, but there are some people with MEGA bucks here. MEGA BUCKS. And we ain't talking Milwaukee.
