Video Card

I am looking for a decent video card (Quadro FX) for CAD drawings that will support 3-4 monitors, all via DVI. I am wondering if anyone knows of any such beast....? Oh and money is not an issue, I figure that the card will cost well over $1000.
Thanks all

Have you looked into any of the Oxygen cards?

The configuration I'm looking at will be like: so in many ways, no price isn't an object.

If I were to fudge it, I'd do it for me first :p . This setup is for someone else at work who needs to have multiple displays for CAD/modeling/coding.

Nice card, I hope you find what you need. I use a Xtasy 9600 256MB DDR that works great for me, but as far as I know it'll only support 2 monitors of which I currently have it set up for.

I wish a card like this would work, but when you get into 3d modelling this kind of card just doesn't cut it (computer/program hangs when trying to render complex models). Unfortunately you need something that is along the lines of a Quadro FX (or the Matrox QID Pro) for this kind of work.

I wanted to race NFS Underground and my Vodoo 5500 wouldn't cut it. Good luck with your find.

Except video card doesn't matter when rendering, as that's entirely CPU. A high-end video card will only let you push a few more polys in your design view than, say, a Radeon x600 or something will in most off-the-shelf 3D apps (Maya, Max, Lightwave, Modo, SoftimageXSI). But, hey, if someone's gullible enough to buy it for you, go nuts!

OK Tremorx, you need to learn how to use a 3D engineering program that will allow you to do a certain amount of triangles per second. If you knew anything about ATI, you would know that they only have 3-4 developers working on cards/drivers that will allow their cards to do this properly (if you do look, take a look at their FireGL). NVidia on the other hand has the Quadro FX line which can do this. Their GeForce line doesn't can't do this, which is why they have another line of cards for this kind of work. As far as running Maya, Max, Lightwave, Modo, SoftimageXSI; the cards that I'm looking for will run these as well, but it's not what they're for. They are for engineering design.

Graphic cards that handle things like gaming and ones that handle 3D engineering type stuff are totally different. For example I work on Autodesk Inventor 8 which is a very 3D intense program. At home I have an 6800 GT o/c way past an ultra (one of the faster video cards out on the market right now) that doesn't do Inventor any justice when the graphics are turned up on high. Video cards are all about rendering not the CPU. I would go with one of the high end nVidias or the matrox.

What type of engineering programs are you using btw?
I've learned about some basic CAM software like Unigraphics and Solid Works, but don't remember them as card intensive at all.

Hell, even in the early '90's when I quit doing AutoCAD there were video cards that did rendering co-processing. Hello foot, welcome to mouth :p
