I'm sure you're not all of you are this way but my wife works with a girl who is dating a cop. We often watch the child from her first marriage while she works or goes out with this guy. As a consequence this guy stops over at MY house to rendevous with this chick while he is on duty. All they do is meet to plan thier evening while she is dropping off the kid so no wrong doing there but usually I'm at work when this happens. Well, this week I'm on vacation so I happened to be home when this guy stopped by. I was out front planting hedges when this cat pulls up like there's a bank heist, pulls ONTO my lawn instead of the driveway, damn near walks by me as I'm introducing myself in MY driveway and starts heading for MY front door like he owns the fuggin place. Now I gotta tell ya', I'm pissed, offended and pretty well put off by this guy. I don't give a flying rat's ass who you are. If I'm helping you get a piece of ass you BETTER show some respect when you roll into my crib. Show respect to get respect.

I would check to see what kind of cop he is. If he's someone with senority, I don't think it's a far stretch to say he could make your life difficult if he wanted to in certain ways.
Ah, fuck it. Throw the useless sumabitch off your property next time he pulls some shit like that.

I know that 99.99999% of the fuzz isn't like this douche bag but damn that pissed me off. If any of you guys knew me in person you would know that it takes a tremendous amount of effort to really piss me off, a feat accomplished in 2.9 seconds by officer hardon. I would never in a million years disrespect an officer on the street the way this one disrespected me in my own front yard. That's all. Shit people, it's not that hard to treat people with just a modicum of respect.

And furthermore, shouldn't this guy have come up to me and thanked me, not as a cop but as someone who is appreciative of my wife and I watching this kid, free of charge so that they can go make monkey love behind Wal-Mart? Damn that pissed me off but at the same time how do you go about correcting a cop?

Your home is your castle and if this prick doesn't respect it and you, then he needs to be put in his place. I'd tell him to his face...cop or not! Just my .02

Yeah, sounds like he thinks he can do what he pleases because he wears a badge. That puts you in a tough position. Guys like that are scary.
I think the only way to handle this guy will be through talking with him. If he offends you about something, kindly let him know that. I would tell him plain and simple that you don't appreciate his actions. Tell him the alternative would be for you to complain about him to his watch commander.
Or let your wife talk to his girlfriend about it and see if she can resolve the situation that way. If you can't resolve the problem, let someone else watch her kid.

Dude, YOU pay his salary, YOU are his boss. Basically, you're paying him to drive on your grass. I'd start by making it a point to be HOME the next time he comes over. Introduce yourself again, and politely tell him you'd appreciate it if he parked in the driveway and used the doorbell like any other citizen.
Failing that, I'd go straight to his Captain and let him know as a concerned citizen that one of his homeys is using the public dime to land a piece of the poon.

This sucks Rabid, I live near a little town named Deland, and unfortunately the cops there hang out pretty much wherever they want while on duty. I know some of them and have played cards/watched football/played video games all while they're supposed to be on duty. I know your first inclination like mine is to confront the guy, unfortunately its probably better just to stop his ass coming over, by stopping the favor of watching the kids.

He does sound like a jerk. There are some officers that other officers hate. It probably not the badge he's wearing, its just his personality.
Please dont pull the "I pay your salary" bit. That will go down hill quickly. He has a boss but you arent it any more than a single individual is President Bush's boss; whose salary we all pay. Depending on where he works and where you live, you may not "pay his salary".
Your Wifes friend would have the most pull with him without it getting ugly. Have her mention your dissatisfaction.
Or, maybe you have nails in your grass and he gets one more flat than he has spare tires. Who you gonna call? However that does go against my sig.

You know , under the badge and the uniform he's a guy just like you are. He's not superhuman and you shouldn't treat him any differently than if he were a used car salesman when you have a relationship with him outside official police business. If he's a prick and you think he'sa prick and he does prick things that you wouldn't let the local used car salesman do , then tell him you don't appreciate whatever he's doing that's pissing you off.
Make it clear to him that you/your wife are doing him and his girl a favor and instead of feeling like you are being taken advantage of he might show a little appreciation by keeping his car off your lawn. There is such a thing as diplomacy and you can convey your thoughs without being confrontational.
Unless you live in Hazard there are strict reprocutions for an officer using his authority as a public servant to intentionally cause harm on an individual. It's not 1950 and you're not in Alabama. If for some reason he uses his position to somehow make your life difficult as a result of your conversation with him it could mean his job and he knows that.

Two choices...First off I would be home the next time he comes over to greet him at the door. See how he pulls up...it could be an isolated incindence. 1) Speak calmly and rationally to him and present the issue with plenty of caviats. (just a diplomatic opinion...I deal with powertripped assholes daily...I work for one) And talk it through.
2) Tell your wife's friend that someone else can watch their child. -cbx
