Do the 2wd Xterra's have torsion bars?
If so, can u raise the front end using them the same as on a 4wd?
Has anyone here with a 2wd done this?

thanks!

yes the 2wd's have torsion bars... yes you can raise the front using them...

HOWEVER, it will effect the stiffness of your ride.

i have not done it yet but will be in the next two months.... the tires i am putting on will not fit unless i give the torsion bars a couple turns...

i'll let you know how it turns out

Hello,
Yes they do.
Yes you can.
Yes I have, but I did this a couple of months back expecting to buy tires soon after. They ride is a tad more stiff, and the steering wheel has more of a loose feel when driving...What is the reason you're wanting to do this anyways? Also, if you raise them, it's a smart idea to get an alignment soon after.

PRIMARYXTC26,

how may turns did you go when you lifted your front end? How much did it raise it?

I ended up turning my right side about 8 turns, and the left 7...Gave me about 3/4" lift. Am about to install 32" BFG's, so I might be cranking them up a little bit more.

I (or should I say a 4x4 co.) lifted mine using an air gun. Raised it about 1 1/2 inches. Looks much better now that it is level. cool

I cranked mine 6 full turns to clear my 31" TSl Swampers. I also have replaced the stock shocks with Bilstiens.

PRIMARYX, How did you raise your X's front end? What did you use? Did you do it yourself? How much did you life the front end? Did you lift the rear end as well?

Thinking about doing something like that? Let me know what you did!

Cheers!

Actually the 4x4 co.(CAJUN OFFROAD) did not charge me. It took 10 min. and he was happy to help. He asked if I needed anything in the future to come and see him.
You should give it a try at a local shop. A another did the same got it done for free also. cool

Yes I did it myself, it only takes a few minutes, but I had instructions just in case. I believe I got them from a post by Synchro, so you might see if it is still posted on his site? I am planning on ordering the add a leafs and shocks from EOE in about a month to have installed with my new tires. Do a search on this subject...I know for a fact there are others here who could help you out alot more than I can. smile

Synchro, just a quick question? Those are the directions I used and had an off topic question? The picture you have posted on that url...What size tires/type are on the X in the picture, and were these pictures taken after you installed the 2" shackles? Thanks in advance...

my lift process goes as follows

1) adjusting torsion bars in the front up 1.5" for bigger tires and a little comfort room. (april 2000)
2) Aadded Rancho 9116 shocks in the rear (REALLY simple to install yourself) (June 2000)
3) SLR shackles (not sure if there is an i think gothamist has a howto on www.4x4lo.com . (january 2001)
4) Nismo torsion bars (schludwiller has instructions for this install on www.xterra4x4.com )(april 2001)
5) KYB front shocks (april 2001)
6) Rancho Add-A-Leafs (instructions on installing these can be found on the PNWX web site done by mosi) (May 2001)

I have since installed the AC front end pieces 2 weeks ago (all new upper a-arms, ball joints and bushings) to have a complete 3" lift kit. all i need now is longer front shocks but i am not spendig money on that right now after i just put in the KYBs. but i did it in stages as I had the cash not in one big plunk down for most lift kits. it ended up costing about the same too. this was best for me, cause like i said, as i had the cash, i upgraded it at my own speed.

happy to answer more questions.

One more here....I am about to purchase those same size tires (32x 11.5 BFG ATs) and was curious if you would advise purchase of the AALs and shocks and install with the tire, or wouldd it hurt if I installed the tires alone, and waited a few months for a better cash flow and install the AAL kit then? Anything you would advise ot warn against? Thanks again.....
