I THINK the differential says somthing like "LSD Oil Only" on it. Could be wrong.

THANKS BUT, I WANT TO INSTALL A POWERTRAX "NO-SLIP TRACTION SYSTEM", BUT IF MY X CAME WITH "LSD" MAY BE I'LL THINK ABOUT IT TWICE.

BUT IF ITS CHEAP, MAYBE WE'RE IN BUSINESS

If you want to be sure, jack up both rear wheels and put in trans in neutral. Spin one back wheel. If the opposite wheeel spins in the same direction, you have LSD. If it spins in the opposite direction, you have a standard diff.

tdanzig, Thanks
Last weekend I jack up mi X, and both wheels spin the same direction, this means I have a LSD.

But the LSD really works ???

The Nissan LSD is all but useless in my experience. It transfers very little torque from the spinning wheel. It has been helpful a couple of times, but not when it really would have been needed.

i heard this trick... and i do use it although i do not know if it really works...seems to, but im not sure:

pull back on the e-brake a couple of clicks..(wont work well on a '02 due to foot e-brake) the LSD does not work well if one wheel has NO resistance... however it will work if there is a slight amount of resistance...

like i said, im just relaying what others have said... hope this helps

We use it all the time in the PNWX. But you have to pull more than a few clicks. Spotters can testify to it working.

it seems like its worked but ive always been in the truck... got me out of a decent jam at WEST X... and i didn't need the tow that was getting ready...

...as for "a few clicks" yeah i guess your right... anytime ive done it i have pulled back gradualy till it either worked or i was sure i was stuck laugh

I've tried that, though I haven't actually tried setting it, I just pull on it while twisting so it doesn't set, haven't felt the slightest difference.

Yeah, What Schlud said! It does help transfer power to both wheels!

You don't need to use the e brake either. I learned this from an ol' timer with the Terra Del Sol club in SDog a few years back and it really works. He use to use it all of the time with his open diff cherokee and would piss off the young studs with the detroits by going the same line they did in their cj's.

For the late model guys this will also work better since you don't have a "proper" brake lever (but you could still use your foot lever just release it when your done) and would IMO be best suited to the automatic tranny folks. All you need to do is ride the brakes just a little, the same effect you get from the e brake. You only apply it when you need it. You could forget about the e brake being on and well you know what happens then.

That's how I learned, the del Sol folks use to always say he was cheating when you saw his break lites light off. But all of us with long wheel bases use to do it. I wish I had an LSD in my X.

you dont actually set the break... or i generally havn't, i have always twisted and pulled, and when i no longer needed it just pushed it back in, but my hand never left the lever...

the only draw back to hiting the standard break pedal is slowing all four wheels...

you mentioned open dif... then your pointer is not about helping the LSD work better but more about a trick used to keep yourself from sliding back... i have done that too... but i think it is a different issue

Hey ya'll...My diff says LSD oil only, but I don't think it is an LSD unit. I have an '00 XE 4x4, without the sport option...was the next one down the utility one? I forget. Anyway, I was rotating tires and saw the note on the diff. I had one tire on the ground and one up. I put my trans in neutral and spun the lifted tire...very little resistance. The utility package isn't supposed to have the LSD...so I don't think you can go by the tag on the diff...just some thoughts.
