By the time you are done buying all the parts and paying for the labor, you could have easily traded up to a 4x4 with money left over. :rolleyes:
For shits and giggles, lets see what you would need:
- Transfer case
- Front drive shaft
- Rear drive shaft
- Front differential
- Right and left half shafts
- Hubs (manual or auto locking)
- Crossmember (not included on 4x2's)
- Labor to R&R all the parts listed above.
Even if you got these parts from a junkyard or bought a totaled truck, you are talking several thousand dollars. By the time you start adding labor to all of this, your total bill would be ridiculous.
I wouldn't even consider converting a 4x2 to a 4x4 with stock front drive. If you were adamant to make it a project vehicle, then you might just as well buy a solid front axle and put in coils or leafs up front so you could lift it higher than 3". Although it would still be cheaper to start with a 4x4 to do a SAS (solid axle swap) since the transfer case is already there.
