Here is a the almost final version of the video for goneMoab.

The sound clips, and at points the music doesn't match the video, but you'll get the idea.

I'm waiting on some footage from other people, so I'll just be edited in, so it's not going to be too different.

After the 4 minute mark, it becomes pretty dull. And it's pretty obvious why I don't have any footage past Golden Spike.

176 meg MPEG1

Edit: Change the domain over a year later for the hell of it.

Beautiful video is usual. I liked the split screen of you driving out. Glad to see you got my admission of losing Big Hair Todd and The Tierods at the Kum and Go smile

Damn you bastards, you're making me want one of those lever things. Looking at still photos I've basically been like "that's just stupid, why do that crap" but seeing it in motion makes it look fun.

Btw, is that Dan with something broke at about 4:40? laugh

Thanks guys for all your kind words. For next time I have to get in sync with everyone who has a MiniDV camera, so everyone's footage can be put in one video.

You'd be amazed how many possible camera mounting locations a TJ has. I'm also planing on doing a video for the NeXterra run and ECXC (Hopefully MobyCat will help some too smile ) . When those are done I'm hoping to put them all on DVD and give them out to people.

Also, about the intro, I had bigger ideas for it, but it came out a bit lame. But of course not lame enough to cut it.

That part about losing Todd...was that in New Castle, Colorado? The Kum and Go right off the exit, through the stop and on the left? Looks like my home town (New Castle) which means you guys went right by my parents' house.

And you didn't stop by and say 'Hi'... laugh

That Kum and Go is at the second exit for Glenwood Springs heading West, and is about dead center between home and Moab.

2 things-
1. It took over 47 minutes to load and wouldn't play when it had. Is there anyway to view it (compressed file?, etc.) aside from my buying a new computer?

It's an MPEG1, just about any player will play this.

Try downloading it first and watching it later. I know it's big, but just about everyone has broadband at this point, which can easily stream this.

I'll make smaller versions later, Divx too.

Nicely done, and I'm not sure what Ian and I were looking at (4:40), Damage was incurred on Steel Bender the 2nd day, that footage is amidst the Fins-n-things tape(day 1). Bummer, didn't show up much in the video anyway. Still cringe when I think about that one...

Jorge, excellent video. It gives a different perspective with it in fast motion. Although, now I can't get the Benny Hill music out of my head! laugh (I watched it at work on mute)

Hey LAXterra, can you give me the specs on your 10 camera setup. I've been looking at doing the same sort of thing. Thanks.

- What type of cameras are you using?
- Where did you get them from?
- Are you using some sort of switching box to go from one camera to the next?
- Are they going to a VCR or a DV deck?

No, not my home server, it isn't like XF.

I have a co-location, which if you don't know, is a server you build/buy and send it to be hosted elsewhere. The advantage to this is that it's cheaper and you can build whatever server you want and not get charged extra for adding memory.

Now the problem started 2 days ago, the connection to the server was really slow, but it seemed to work. So slow that I couldn't shell in. So I called to get it rebooted it. I was out the whole day and when I came back, it was down.

So I called again, and they rebooted it again. I was busy all yesterday and when I got back, it was still down. So this morning I call, and guess what, they don't reboot it, and not they're going to see what the actual problem is.

It's pretty sad, this server has been up there for over 3 years, and never has gone down without there being a freak accident like the power outage and somehow they managed to not connect mine to a UPS (bastards).

The server name is ns1.induktion.com (66.221.106.50)

Jorge... What video editing program did you use to create the mpeg? It was asked earlier in the thread, but didn't get a response... So I'm politely asking again... What program did ya use!? [Too much XOC]

Thanks man...

What did I use to create the actual MPEG? That would be TMPEGenc . It's a free encoder. I usually output the video to an uncompressed AVI and convert it to Divx, MPEG1, MPEG2 from there. For encoding in DIVX I use VirtualDub .

Now if you're talking about the actual editing, I use Adobe Premiere. It's a neat little program, complex enough to do make nice videos, but easy enough to not take forever to learn.

I am still completely lost when using Avid.

Where did you learn to use Premiere ?
Do you know where I could find tutorials or anything similar.
I tried using it, but was so lost compared to Pinnacle Studio.

You got skills ! Nice editing.

Actually, I learned it from just using it and reading books. The Adobe "Classroom in a book" series are the best.

Whatever you do, don't go for the dummy books.
