The software I use to capture video from VHS has a copy guard feature in it to keep you from copying coprighted material. However it keeps stopping my captures from tapes that I bought BLANK and have recorded my own stuff on to from a video camera. Make sense? Anyway its getting quite frustrating that I am blocked from capturing MY OWN STUFF. Dosen't do it for the whole tape either just random points along the way. Anyone know a way around it? I'm using MGI videowave 4 to capture through a dazzle device.

If you are, make sure that the video signal isn't running through another component before getting to your vid/cap device.
EX: VCR to VCR to Vid/cap.
I think that Macrovision stuff kicks in then.

Thats probably not it but I cant think of anything else.

There is no macrovision in blank tapes. That's not your problem (unless you are taping on old tapes - but I don't think that would happen either - once you recorded over stuff, you've effectively erased the macrovision).

These points in the tape - are they were you stopped or paused the tape while recording? If so, that might be the issue. Some software will freak out if you have a break in timecode. I don't see this as being the exact issue - that's usually only with professional grade. But it *could* be what is happening.

The tape that I am working with right now started out as a brand new Blank tape. I took all the footage I had from the plant tour on my Sony Hi-8 camcorder and transfered it all to the blank tape, no stopping or pauseing while transfering. I'll be trying to captuer it directly from the original Hi-8 tape soon as I get an adapter to split the audio. Hopefully that will work better.

Could it be a problem with the Dazzle device? Something similar to the "Occasional Glitch" described here: http://ultra.litpixel.com:83/reviews/Dazzle_Hollywood/index.html
