I was sure that I would drive my current X into the ground. Now I'm not so sure at all.
Thank you, Nissan, for a 6 speed tranny and new engine. Plus other features too numerous to mention. If the price is right, I might well consider trading up...

ON ANOTHER 2WD. OOH YEAH EAT THAT (not really)
edit - Notice also that I kept the headlights square. It's not the shape that really makes the 02-04 look better, it's the framing. Looks less 1980's Toyota-ish. The new Nissan front-end looks too much like it was designed by Ford.I definately like your rendition better than what they're planning.

Since everyone I heard give commentary hated the size and placement, I can only hope they will clean things up a bit. If not, I would just take 'em off

Hey, I am new here. Thinking of getting an 04 Xterra and now the 05 came along... what a decision.
Did anyone noticed in the interiour picture of the gauge cluster, that there seems to be more than the standard (Tach, Speedo, Fuel and Temp?)
It would be nice if they thorw in the auxillary guages like oil pressure/battery voltage and such.

Although this is too early to say, but I hope they'll make the 6th gear a really tall overdrive (like the .50 ratio of the f-bodies). The ratio should be atleast 30mph / 1000 rpm. Our current cruising rpm is way too high to achieve good mileage.
I would also hope that Nissan has upgraded the load capacity. I have heard that the current gen is officially rated at only 850 lbs, (although it could easily handle more), which is a bit low for a truck with a frame.
And as others have noted, the ground clearance seems a bit low. The ABSOLUTE LOWEST POINT might be higher, giving it a higer gc rating, but the overall clearance has gone down, just like many other new SUVs (Durango for example).

Well it looks like the Xterra, Frontier, and Pathfinder share the same dash and such. Pathy is slightly different. X Frontier Pathy

The 6-speed is based on the tranny behind the 350Z. Obviously the ratios will likely be revised for truck/SUV use, but for reference the Z has a .794:1 6th and a 1:1 5th. (And as a side note, I just noticed while looking that up that the Z driveshaft is carbon-fiber reinforced plastic ) One thing that has me quite worried is that the Z tranny is NOTORIOUS for having 3rd gear go out (pretty sure it's 3rd). I've read of one that had the first tranny die at 3000 miles and its replacement die at 12,000, and a Nissan tech I know tells me of one that has been through FOUR transmissions and the 5th one is acting up and he's seen many others in the shop with the same problem. Nissan better get this solved before the Frontier goes into production. Never had a locking glove box and never really felt a need for it. A convertible could use one, but otherwise the door locks are protection enough for me. Regarding the supposed similarities between the '05 X and the Jeep Rescue:
Prior to the release of the H2, Jeep tried to sue GM for the grill pattern on the H2 because Jeep felt that it was close enough to thier grill design that it infringed on their trademark logo.
In the interrim they have seen the H2's sales go through the roof and they lament their lack of a real full size (read GIANT) SUV.
It was determined that the grill design was not at the time truly representative of the Jeep enough to warrant the lawsuit. (I don't remember every detail but..) I think the H2 had to be manufacturered with one less grill slat. At the same time GM was suing Studebaker (resurected) because their concept XUT vehicle so closely resembled the H2 that they felt that it was a direct copy.
In the end Jeep has taken great pains to present the grill as their trademark logo, hence the new advertising and the highlighting of the front grill on all of their adds.
Studebaker was required to make design changes to the XUT that would define what design features made the H2 a unique vehicle to GM. Eventually that vehicle will see production , probablly with a Ford Superduty engine and driveline.
Jeep, now undertanding what is and is not defined as an H2, has set out to make a full size SUV to go toe to toe with GM. The rescue is going to be a big SUV. If anything it will closely resemble the H2 as much as Jeep knows it can legally get away with while highlighting their trademark front grill all while being able to promote it as a "true" off-road vehicle as Jeep likes to call itself.

my 2 cents is that the GRILL SUCKS BIG TIME! some of you photo shop pros should black out the silver part and lets see that. the chances of that mod is DIY and greater than them doing the round tube version posted here that IS far better looking.
STUPID DESIGNERS!
