I like it.... but.... I dunno.
Something about the side view. I don't like the way the front end looks from the side.
I also don't like the placement of the Nissan and Xterra emblems on the hatch (I know, I know. No big deal. But still..)
Other then that, I think it will grow on me the more I look at it. Can't wait to see it in person.
I have not the time to read all the posts (sorry), so can anyone tell me when these are expected at the dealerships?

I have not the time to read all the posts (sorry), so can anyone tell me when these are expected at the dealerships? The side view...you're right. In profile, the front fenders and front doors look like the current X, but then it seems like the rear doors and cargo area are compressed, like they're too short and thus out of proportion with the rest of the truck. Almost looks like a bad Photoshop job. I recall seeing somewhere that Nissan says it'll be at dealers in early '05. It looks pretty good, they didn't screw it up, but I'm still happy with my '02 and won't feel deprived when I start seeing 2005's on the road. So all in all, a .

There seem to be plenty available. I've done this many times where people wanted to plug in portable MP3 players. However, if they are really thinking, they would have Rockford build in the capability to interface with their hard drive system. I doubt it though. You overpay for all that stuff anyway. It's better and cheaper to go strait aftermarket.

I like the looks and REALLY like the new engine and tranny, but how much more expensive will it be? Hopefully the shared platform will keep costs down, but I'd guess about $5k more than the current model.

Dislikes: 1. No sunroof option 2. Badge placement on the back 3. Bland interior
Likes: 1. Exterior Styling 2. Integrated step in rear bumper
Overall I think this is what the 2002 refresh should have been. No offense to people with the 2002 - 2004 models but they just don't seem to fit in the evolution. I do think the interior of the 2002-2004 run is better than this though. The interior is too similar to the 2005 Frontier and Pathfinder. I think they are too bland and uninteresting. What I like the best is that this makes my 2000 model still seem pretty fresh and stylish. Often when a new model of a vehicle is introduced the changes are so radical that the outgoing model looks extremely dated, but with the 2005 Xterra my 2000 seems to still be fresh.

It is going to be around 30K or more I think they'd better release the Xtrail in the US market then, or they'll be missing a ton of business on the low end.

Why is it that the most common comment here seems to be about the f%$#^ing badge placement???!!!!
I thought this was a group of people who personalized their vehicles anyway. If badge placement is the worst thing that Nissan did with the new generation, then they did pretty damn well in my book.

It wouldn't make any sense to have them sitting at the same price point. The Pathy projects to be in the 32k-38 range. I'm sure Nissan will have X models that will fill the $23-30k reange depending on trim level. I hope they don't roll out a great vehicle and them shoot themselves in the foot by trying to bump up the price tag too much. It could backfire and create the same consumer confusion that resulted when the Altima's introduction conflicted with the Maxima. What made the X a winner in the first place was the fact that we as consumers felt that we were getting great value from our purchase.

My take on today......it was pretty cool.
Got to see some friends and meet some new people too.
As for the truck......Brent probably said it all already.
I have mixed views (more positive) on it without seeing the interior. Some of the things Nissan changed were good (approach angles and things hanging low underneath, bigger motor). Others bad: the sump pan location, IN FRONT of the crossmember, ability to fit larger than 32" tires.
Unfortunatley, we could not get an answer about the alternator location, interior power sources, or inside hatch release, etc.)
I want to thank Nissan for inviting us. I had a great time today.

You gotta figure Nissan to had 5K to the price for the motor alone, right? We told them not more then 30k total for the truck otherwise it is in Pathy territory. Stone

Man, those are some ugly headlights.
edit: Blech. The whole thing is awful. Looks like I'll be going back to Toyota in a couple of years.
edit 2: The more I look at it the more I want to get rid of my Xterra and just get a Landcruiser.
also, screw all you square-headlight hippies, you're ruining the future.

for some reason, the interior reminds me of a land rover discovery...
and after looking at it, the gas cap is on the wrong side, and the rear wiper is backwards...
