Hey everyone. I just ordered my new X yesterday from the dealership. I looked for about a month for the one I wanted (OR, superblack, blue interior, sound system, sirius, airbags) and nobody on the east coast had any. So we had to order it from the factory. They told us 8-10 weeks.
I was just wondering if that is accurate? Will it take longer? Also I've been reading on the site a lot about people not getting the color they ordered. Is this really true? Thanks for any help!

I have ordered two vehicles as a special order twice before..one toyota (last year) and one chevy (14 years ago).

both took 5 weeks for delivery (or even a day or two less) and it is interesting to note that both factories were in CA (the state in which I reside). they just give you the two month waiting spiel just in case and probably to try to get you to buy off the lot instead. Those guys know damn well it only takes a month, but they will never tell you that.

yes, GM used to make camaros in Van Nuys.

The best I can tell it will take about 3 months minimum unless you're lucky.. Some dealers will tll you less but they're just trying to get the order.

I ordered mine last March and it arrived in July. You have to try and get in before the cutoff period. I missed mine so I had to wait until the next one.

I ordered mine in Sept. and I got it the day before Thanksgiving weekend. However, they were just starting '06 production, and I wanted an '06

My dealer told me that they can only order vehicles the first 5-10 days of the month. If you miss that window you have to wait until the following month for Nissan to accept your order.

Question for you guys who have ordered your Xterra...did you negociate the price first? Also, did they try to charge you extra for ordering it instead of taking it from dealer stock?

I dont have an Xterra yet but have though about ordering due to the lack of choices here and was wondering what to look out for if I decide to go this route...I want OR 4x4 6sp

I negotiated the price before ordering. No extra charge (that I know of) for ordering.

We agreed on a price prior to ordering relative to the invoice price. The dealer did not want to agree to a fixed price because the cost does not always stay the same throughout the model year - it often increases. I agreed to pay the dealer $100 over invoice price in effect on day of delivery. I'm pretty sure I could have got down to invoice price but I was pressed for time and tiring of dealer BS.

The invoice price did increase by about $100 during the time between my order and delivery date (almost 4 months); however, I was given a $500 rebate on delivery date that was not in effect on the order date.

If you order you may want to consider going through your dealer's internet rep. Some X owners have reported smooth transactions by doing so. I went through a salesman, and had to endure the usual gamesmanship.

Also, refuse to pay any unwarranted fees such as documentation or advertising. Only pay for the vehicle, delivery, tax, title, registration, etc.

Good luck w/ your negotiations smile

I also negotiated the price before ordering. The dealer told me later that they had to order from the factory, since the negotiated price was too low to swap with other dealers within the province. True/False... don't know.

I wanted an OR, R/F sterio, and side air bags, N. Armor with blue interior. None were found on the east coast and the dealer called me at work and said there was one on the floor at the factory, that now had my name on it, that would be sent back through to add an option I wanted and was scheduled to arrive on his lot in three weeks. It came in one day later than planned. Price was agreed to be invoice prior to the order and I received an addtional $500 off for a rebate. Not one add on and no attempts at such. I sold my old car three days before my X arrived and the dealer said to just come by and pick up a loaner. It was a smooth and rapid process but apparantly required the dealer to work with the factory instead of just "placing an order" and waiting.
