As if you didn't think this was coming?
What shocks? Any limiting straps? Onroad manners? Total lift? And anything else you can think of?

NICE! I've been looking for a pic of the Revolvers in action. Gotta add that to my list at some point. Now, if you guys can cook up a locking pin or something to keep 'em folded up during the week when the wife is driving it. Something like swaybar disconnects, only for the shackles.

As a courtesy to ned and others on the board, some of the details directly from ned: “No driveline issues, the Revolvers rotate forward on opening Not a lot of driving with `em yet, not sure about other issues but I don`t foresee a problem with transfer etc. Had the Revolvers for over a year and no stink bug stops beyond acceptable.....never been in a panic stop.....ya know skidding. Don`t know the details on the shocks but they are the LONGEST shocks made by Bilstein before the Helm joint shocks. You do need to have custom shock mounts made for the longer shocks. You need longer brake lines. You need spacers on the wheels (I have 1") or 1" more offset wheels. You need to reroute the ABS lines. Each is not a difficult mod, just takes time and money. I like the Revolvers, cuz you can place `em now and do nothing else. As you pocket book allows, you can start the other mods. Its not a "all right now" thing. I`ll update the boards later with more details." I`ll ask about the shock placement and why they are flipped over!” Man, I’m might have hard time keeping up with ned on the trails with his setup, technique can only get you so far. Holy $h!t!
Now THAT is articulation... Damn!
I have to ask - how do modifications that Xtreme change the on-road characteristics? I'd be worried that sway would be seriously increased, no?

Yes, on road driving cannot be as aggressive but I would say that it is well within being "acceptable". I would not say that sway is SERIOUSLY increased though. You will notice that most of the anti-sway is dictated by the front anti-sway bar. I haven't had a rear sway bar for quite some time now. The thing that has most negatively affected drivability were the spacers. ------------------

Supposedly... Automotive Customizers is going to be selling revolver shackles soon. 4x4parts.com It is funny how their message board blocks our the word "Spencer" and spencerlowracing.com becomes www.******************** when you post... Guess they don't want their readers to know about their competition! ------------------ :wq! wqbang@southeastxterraclub.org

IMO, the people at 4x4 Parts are a little childish.
If they're resorting to putting SLR into their "bad words file" and that exchange about the lift kit a few months ago...
I for one have little respect for them.

You mean 4x4 Parts. 4x4 Connection is primarily a Land Cruiser shop located in Northern Virginia where Mr. T, Synchro and myself got our ARBs from. I totally agree with you about 4x4 Parts, though. ------------------ gothamist -- MAXC member http://www.beatdriven.com/xterra.html

gonna have to change that >:-) (evil grin) That board is an example of why no supplier or seller of Xterras, parts for Xterra's or accessories for Xterra's should have control of a message board.. it restricts the flow of information to the people who need it most. ------------------ 2000 Xterra White 4x4 3pack w/xtras SWXC Member# 2 TMTC (Texas Motorized Trails Coalition)Member # 653 KD5MQO Carlton_McMillan@swxc.org www.swxc.org [This message has been edited by Carlton McMillan (edited January 24, 2001).]

I like how 4x4parts said this as well "Supposedly... Automotive Customizers is going to be selling revolver shackles soon. 4x4parts.com" , they also say they(all Nissan ones) are being made exclusively for them to sell! What a crock of sh*t, I can go to OK4WD and order Revolvers anytime I want.

I don't know if things have changed at Metal Made Rite, but in their new adds (a full page one in the March 2001 4WD & Sport Utility), they advertise that the Revolvers "can also be applied" to the Nissan Xterra.
One would assume that if they are advertising it, that the parts are the correct size, but I think we've all learned not to assume...

wqbang, When I go to the link at 4x4 parts, they say there is a 3inch suspension lift now available for the xterra. I know Ive seen that add before, but why havent I heard anyone talk about it? John

People do talk about it. 4x4parts.com has left a bad taste in the mouths of some Xterra owners here. They have dodged questions about their lift. It relies almost entirely on torsion lift, and therefore reduces downward wheel travel. If someone would like to comment on the lift that has one, it would be great. But I have never seen one on a truck besides the 4x4parts Xterra. ------------------ :wq! wqbang@southeastxterraclub.org

I've done a search but couldn't seem to find the topic if it has been discussed before sorry.... So has anyone considered a spring over axle conversion. I know that all the old jeep guys do this for lift and I know it usually is relitavely cheap plus the added clearance under the axle is an added benefit plus being able to squeeze a bigger tire.

Sorry so many questions tonight.
Since this is the "Hardcore" section has anyone also considered doing a solid axle conversion to the front of your X. I found a website of an old Pathy(94 I believe) that used a solid axle off of an early Ford Bronco. I guess this is an extreme possiblity since the X sits on the old frame that the Pathfinder used. I think the Pathfinder used 4.36 gearing and the Bronco had 4.35 and he ended up in the end with 4.66 gears front and rear, ARB lockers, and 4 inches of lift. To me that guy is Hardcore. Comments....

I'll be glad to do it to my Xterra when it's about 7 years old, and not worth much anymore. It's hard to modify a $25k truck unless money is readily available. ------------------ Regards, Ian

They (computer guys) may make a pretty nice wage but they also live in some of the most expensive locations in the US.
I'm just a "poor" Electrical Engineer who paid cash for his X but I still can't justify DESTROYING a perfectly good vehicle at least until it passes the 100k mile mark.

Who said anything about destroying it? Do you mean performing major modifications, like an SAS? Or just offroading in general? (I'll hope by your username you mean the former and not the latter...?) ------------------ gothamist -- MAXC member http://www.beatdriven.com/xterra.html

Goth,
Most definitely the former, I love to get my ride dirty. I don’t even mind the occasional body panel repair / broken part, as long as it happens on the trail and not in the parking lot. I just can’t see killing the ride quality that you get from IFS to do SAS conversion. Sure, you’ll never fit those 38’s you’ve got laying around the shop under your X without it but do you really NEED them, probably not. You can get plenty Hardcore without going to that extreme.

As far as being hardcore lockers will get you out of most sticky situations. To those that are secretly doing this more power to you and I hope that everything works for you. Also you can do these mods and wheel and not destroy your rig at the same time. Just cause that Pathy guy has doesn't mean you will. Just take it a little easier. Also if anyone succesfully does any of these mods I pray you will share some info. Personally I'm just saving a lot of cash and scouting out ALL of my options and doing a lot of research on these kinds of possiblilties. When its all said and done I hope to give the Frankenfinder a run for his money.
