Have you done an SAS???

Detroit locker wont work on our front end as far as I know...

I have my front locked with ARB and still just LSD in the rear. The front locked gets me over obstacles I could not do before or gets me over a lot easier.

I'm actually glad I did the front first and I like the on / off of the ARB for steering.

I would save up for something selectable seeing how you live in CO even though we have a part time 4wd system.

I’ve run a Lockright and Aussie in some of my other rigs up front. Aussie was quieter and better but both worked well and will give you a armstrong work-out by the end of the day especially in the rocks not to mention the change in turning radius. In the snow and ice I didn’t care for them especially off-camber.

With a SAS you’re less likely to need to lock the front as opposed to IFS.

OK I am looking for a donor axle. Here is what I found... looks like a good deal.

Driver side drop Dana 44 from '84 Grand Waggy, flattop Knuckles, high steer on pass side, 4.88's, with detroit ez locker, 6 lug, completely rebuilt with maybe 500 miles, 1 or 2 set of spare axle shafts(i'll need to check).

This axle easlily handled the 38's that are on my rig, running all the hard Colorado trails, in three years I only broke one shaft on each side.

$600, located in Colorado Springs

Yeah that’s seem like an ok but deal for what you get plus you can always resell the Detroit if you don’t end up using.

If he ran all the hard Colorado trails over 3 years on 38’s I would inspect the case, gears, Detroit for wear.

FYI the CALMINI kit isn’t designed for flattops with cross over partial high steer as described. Not to say you can’t use them but you’re going to have to customize/experiment some to use the kit if it works out with that type of setup. Otherwise you can pick-up a stock waggy drag-link, tie-rod,etc and most likely use those knuckles with nothing attached to the flap-tops.

That is the plan then if I ever high steer the flat tops are there.

OK deal?

I think it sounds like a steal!!!!

It's already got the right gears. You could probably almost get your money back just by selling the Hi-Steer and Detroit (if you don't want them).

I definitely agree with taking a good, hard look at the guts and verifying the gear ratio. This deal is only a good one if the sh1t ain't tore up.

Lemme know if you need me to take a gander.

Don't worry about driving with the EZ locker in the front.

When you are on the street and the hubs are unlocked, it makes no difference.

If you are on the trail and it won't turn tight enough for a certain obsticle (starts pushing) just get out and un-lock the hub on the wheel towards the inside of the turn.

When it's locked in the front in conjunction with a rear locker you will have a good combination.

Kev, I've run EZ lockers on several different vehicles (Blazer, Cherokee, Toyota and K10 Pickup).

The only thing that's happened a couple of times is that the limit pins have broken inside, causing it to not lockup. The good side to this is the fact that simply replacing the pins (still requires tear down, etc.) is that the pins are cheap, vs. getting a new locker.

Some guys don't like the limit pins, but I think Dollars to doughnuts they're the best bang for the buck.

The only time I broke the pins was when I was either hot-doggin' or otherwise stupid. Consider full throttle in a '76 K10 full size automatic, massive wheel spin with 35" BFG's, going up a muddy hill and then hitting dry ground on the other side, fairly stupid! [ThumbsUp]

*Sidenote: Chicks only dig body damage if they don't have to walk 1.5 miles off a muddy, cold and hunter heavy wooded mountain 40 miles from home. Just a lesson I thought I'd pass on there.

Needless to say, yanking the EZ to put pins in 'er was the least of my worries. Getting a new gas tank in after towing it to Glenwood Springs from Colbran was the biggest concern. [Huh?]

That's an awesome deal. The locker alone is worth $300.
