I made some pretty elaborate strip steel brackets to mount the compressor....Damn cruise control makes it difficult to find a compressor mounting point....

Anyway, on the 2002+ interior, where have you put your switches? I have an auto and was thinking about locating them right in front of the shifter on the center console. I can't see anyplace suitable on the dash for them. Just looking for ideas.

My '98 Frontier was easy...it had no options and had these nice little black plates over the factory accessory holes...3 of them...one for the compressor switch and 2 more side by side for the locker switches....

Of course that was TOO easy....

This in on my '00... but I'm proud of it so you have to look at it anyway :p

There was a little pocket thing there - but turns out it just unscrews leaving a nice open hole... so I just made a paper template and then cut out a piece of an old sheet metal sign to fit, painted it black, and glued it on with RTV

Our theft deterrant thingy is where Grand Forks mounted his - so that's out.

We have an open thingy where Kaiser mounted his - so that's out too.

More ideas?

On my 2000, I mounted the switches right below the 4x4 shifter...compresser in the middle, rear on the left and front on the right.

On my '02, the compressor switch is mounted inside the bottom part of the center arm rest, so you have to open it to activate it, and the front and rear locker switches are mounted on the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. It's kind of a neat arrangement so that someone else who is driving your truck can't accidently (playing with things) engage the lockers on the highway. laugh

GFX, thats where they are on my Frontier too (different dash though)....like DL said, we have the security gizmo there. My compressor is mounted. Looking at yours, however, I'm surprised you got it to fit back there!

I'm pretty proud of my compressor mount.

I only see a red X on Glen's post confused

It took some work and a lot of cursing. You have an aftermarket security system or the stock one? If its the stock one just remove the blinker panel the alarm will work fine.

Yeah, it's the stock one, but that blinky red light might be somewhat of a deterrent.

I mounted mine like Kaiser's. I have a 2000 X with automatic xmsn.

I made a plastic cover for the opening and mounted the switches (3 in my case) in it.

Sort of a bitch to get screws holding the cover in place.

PS: you can make a mount to get the cruise control out of the way in the engine compartment. Makes it much easier to put the compressor in that space.

As I stated, my compressor is already mounted. I'll get some pics of that.

If I had the 2000-2001 dash, this would be cake...Just looking for the best spot on the newer rounded dashes

Here's what I did, although I used some duck bill switches instead of the factory switches supplied with the locker. I'm running air to the lockers with a powertank so no need for 3 switches. If you want the 3 switches all together how about under the 4x4 lever like in the pic where I mounted my roof and reverse lights. The factory arb switches looks to be the same size as the marine grade switches that coolerman sells.

Pinoy, that looks like a very clean install of all the switchs. Good job. I would have left off the ARB Air Locker stickers though. smile

What is the thing infront of the gear shift? It looks like a roll gauge.

How does that front facia piece on the dash come off, and is there room behind it below the heater controls for the ARB switches?

4 screws hold it in place, then it just pulls off, 2 screws just above the radio and the other 2 screws you have to pop off the cover/facia off the shifters and you should beable to get to them.
There should be enough room behind the cover for the arb switches to fit but you don't have enough height on the face to mount them unless you mount the switches sideways, if that makes any sense.

That's what I ended up doing...put the switches in there sideways. Doesn't look too bad. It all works. Now I gotta drop out the 3rd member and go get the thing installed.

Damn Andy with all the things you've done to your Frontier you won't touch the gears on DL's X? What's up with that? Drag it over here, I'll do it or Keith will do it no problem. smile

Another detail I recall from mounting my ARB switches is that I kept breaking the actuator pin in the switch 'face' plate. Broken pin = no locker. Tried a number of things but what seemed to fix the problem was moving the switches apart a little bit. I orginally had them very close together.

I've had the ARB switches in my Frontier for nearly 5 years now...no problems there.

Keith...I just don't have the time or the desire to tear into a diff...not when I can get it all done for me for about $175...I'd have to buy quite a few tools, like a tap and dye set, for instance, to do it myself.

We did the one in my front IFS axle on the Frontier way back when....so I have seen one apart. JW helped me with that one.

I dunno about anyone else, but I would be setting stuff on those switches constantly.. OOPS! locked the rear doing 40 on a dirt road. Not good smile

Yep, I ended up installing below the heater panel. I thought about the console like that too, but my wife stashes too much crap there when she drives.

Can I ask what you guys are storing in that spot? I would think the slightest bump or turn would knock whatever it is onto the driver's or pass. side floor. I have had those switches (for my roof lights) there for the pass 3 years without ever once accidently turning them on, I've had envelopes, keys and even a remote for a GPS unit on them without turning them on accidently. They ended up falling on the floor before turning on the swtiches.
I did have one incident where I had a portable GPS on the dash (not sitting correctly) hit a bump and the GPS unit fell from the dash hitting one of the duck bill switches for my locker (under the heating controls) and turning it on, but my air source(powertank) was shut off, so no harm done laugh .

My 01 X had an available slot and just moved the rear windshield wiper switch where the theft deterrant was, and this is inside the dashboard now, tied to the rest of the wires... this way I made room for both ARB switches...

those are the same switches Coolerman sells, and I have 2 in the same place as Abiel, ditch the alarm light, move the wiper switch, pop them in smile

I also have 3 in beside the shifter, never accidently turned one on.

My install is featured on his site even wink
