#435101 - 04/09/04 08:56 PM Sway bar disconnect - all the time, or just seasonal?

it seems most of our club runs with their rear sway bar disconnected all the time, though a few tend to just disconnect before heading on a trail.

Last trail we did, the guy behind me say MAJOR clearance between earth and my rear tires, so when installing the sliders we went ahead and disconnected the sway bars in back. But, it's getting to be the end of the season here, trail ridge road's already been closed due to snow.....how will the X handle in the winter with the rear sway bars disconnected? Will I have problems if I leave them like that? The X is my daily driver......

Do you leave yours disconnected all the time? Just during the summer when you're going offroad??

Like many here, i've never had a problem with having the rear swaybar disconnected. I left mine off after the lift. Our X has had countless miles of snow driving since. No problem.
The swaybar(rear) is there to reduce body roll during cornering. The difference is negligible.

I took mine off a couple years ago. When you a pulling a trailer, you will notice the difference. Also if you carry a lot on top of the truck.

Snow and ice do not seem to make a difference. Cross winds do make things slightly more exciting. eek

I guess we are all thinking that this winter could give us a little more snow.......

I haven't had a rear swaybar since I first took the truck offroad almost 3 years ago. I don't remember how it drove with it, but don't have any problems with the way it handles now.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'm just a little gun shy, we had a bad accident with the last xterra and I'm just worried about the safety (not that I'm planning on any more accidents!!)

You might consider getting new shocks if you are going to drive without them connected... makes a big difference from what i hear and have read in the past.
