I was just wondering if the fact that a 2002 has one less leaf in the back would really alter what gains the AAL's can acheive in the end? Im debating the whole new SLR pack for the rear, but am keeping a budget in mind to be realistic for now.

I would call SLR and talk to them. I would guess that their 3 leaf AAL's would work great with the 2002 spring packs. I sure like them on my 2000.

Isn't it the load leaf which is missing on the 02's? If so, many are just leaving the load leaf off when doing the AAL - leaving you in the same boat. I left the load leaf off when I did the AAL.

I left the load leaf off when I did the AAL. No man, it's missing an entire leaf I also left out the load leaf with my AAL (single leaf).

Why would they take a leaf out when the stock pack is already so... Cheesy? But anyway - I can't recommend the SLR triple-spring AALs enough. I installed 'em (left out the load leaf) and they ride like, well, buttah...

dano. go with the SLR AAL. in my opinion it's the best designed AAL for the X plus it's a 3 leaf pack. the only thing that sucks about them is that they're not painted. you can paint them when you get em, it no biggie. phreak did it.

The 2 leafs on the 2002 are slightly thicker than the three leafs on prior year models. (the individual leafs, not the leaf pack) I have a 2002 with the SLR 3 leaf AAL and no load leaf with a one inch shackle. It rides nice and doesn't sag like it did when stock. Stock it would bottom out on the freeway with four people and some gear in the back.

Yep - definitely the best AALs out there, IMO... Check here for more info and pictures (including painting)... EDIT: TK1 - ahhh, okay. Thanks. That just didn't seem to make sense, otherwise.

From those photos, it looks to me like the '02+ has thicker leafsprings, but thinner loadleafs. My guess is the rear-end is about the same, or a touch softer now.
