Been off the board for some time now. I am getting ready to replace my torsion bars. Do I really need too? I have 1.5 rear shackles and when I cranked the T-bars the ride got way stiff. I think that by going to a stiffer T-bar it will ride better. Put the T-bar back in its range of motion to speak.

I was going to use these T-bars:

Is this my best source for a replacement T-bar on a budget?

Is 30 percent over stock too much?

Where can I get 1" shackles? I might decide to remove the 1.5 shackles and go with 1" shackles. It seemed that on my truck the 1.5 shackles caused me to get some strange noises coming from the front end. Sort of a pop noise and no it is not the bump stop. I can not isolate the sound but is sounds like a ball joint or other movable steerign component getting into and out of a bind. Perhaps from too much T-bar crank?

uh no.

I bet you cranked it until you're on the bumpstops, that's why it's riding like that.

Stiffer bars will ride stiffer, your line of thinking is wrong.

I just replaced my OEM Torsion Bars with the Nismo Torsion bars (made by Sway-away) from SLR, and my ride is quite smooth...then again..I replaced Stock shock absorbers with Bilstiens which make a whole lot of difference in ride...

Replace the stock shocks with extended travel Bilsteins instead of worrying about the torsion bars. It'll make a big difference.

The extended Rancho's don't seem to compress enough for a PML'd X...the extended Bils are a better choice.

And - the logic is backwards to start with on the t-bars...if its too stiff, stiffening it will not make it less stiff. eek

The point about the bumpstop clearance is probably correct...you should have atleast 1/2" - 3/4" of clearance...or it will ride like shit. laugh

The 1" shackles only lift you 1/2" (SLR and AC's nomenclature), whereas the Calmini 1.5" lift shackles lift you 1.5" (Calmini's nomenclature).

If you wanted to be 1/2" lower than you were with the 1.5" shackle, you'd need to go DOWN to a 2" shackle, to get 1" of lift instead of 1.5" of lift.

Honest.

laugh

As far as I know, Calmini has the only ~ 6" eye to eye lift shackle, so it gives ~ 1.5" of lift over the ~ 3" eye to eye OEM shackles.

SLR and AC have only 1" and 2" shackles, meaning about 4" and 5" eye to eye, or only 1/2" or 1" of actual lift over stock.

If you need to get those t-bars "Back into Range" - all you have to do is re-index them....that's exactly what re-indexing is for.

laugh

Hope that clarifies things a bit.
