Alright, attention all SUV accessory manufacturers. How about getting off your butts and making some grille guards for the 2002-2003 Xterras!!! Besdides the Bull Bars and the Euro crap grille guards there is nothing out there. Manik? Waag? Smittybilt? Grizzly?

When you have a supercharged xterra instead of a 4 cylinder automatic, you don't need the winch or the big "manly" bull bar to make up for something missing between the legs.

So. What I'm hearing you say is that the supercharged X makes up for what is missing between your leggs. ??????????

The 4-cylinder X is manual transmission only :p
As for a bull bar and winch, I'll take it over a supercharger anyday. A supercharger won't get you or a friend out of a bind, provide a durable surface for scraping over rocks and dirt, or take a good lick to the front end. Neither will a flimsy brush guard.

well you all can say what you will about brush guards ,but i know from personnal experience that they work in a front end crash. totaled another car with my bronco , and all i had to do to mine was pull the guard away from the left head light and reajust the head light

And for ever 1 tale like that, there are 2 that relate how the brush guard bent and tweaked much more of the front end other than the point of impact. One guy slid into a stump that would only have taken out the plastic lower part of his bumper, but ended up needing a new bumper, grille, hood, both fenders, and his door wouldn't open, all because the brush guard shifted from the impact.

Poseur crap...

If there were any places to go off road left in my area (less than 100 miles) I'd go with a bull bar/winch combo too but why blow over 500 bucks when you're not going to use it. Thats why I want one of the fluffy "poseur crap" grille guards. Just for looks and a spot to mount a couple of lights.Sorry.

Yep
;(

Low speed impact coused 10 times more damage because of that stupid thing ;(

AND BTW bullshit about totaling another car with brushguard, and ONLY misaligned head light

Yup, just for looks. You don't need it to mount lights, you can integrate a couple nicely into the existing bumper. Someone here has done it on a 2002 and got a "mod" named after it for him. Not to mention the factory fog light spots. If you're not going to off-road your X, why do you need more lights anyway? People are complaining that the '02s headlights are too bright and/or aimed too high already, sounds like they're up to pavement pounding.

If this guard means so much to you why didn't you just get one as an option when you bought your truck?

And its the "dano mod" that Brent was mentioning.

Another pic of the mod. Only cost is the lights and a drill bit or two.

I call bullshit as well. A brushguard is not strong enough to withstand the kind of impact needed to total another car without destroying itself. Being an accident reconstructionist I have seen way to many of them in accidents. Not one of them saved the wearing vehicle from any damage when the other was totaled or even hit hard.

Now don't get me wrong to each his own. If you want to buy one I am all for that. It is your X and not anyone elses. Just because my needs are different than yours deosn't make yours any worse or better than mine. Just wanted to point out your incorrect statement.

Before my Xterra I owned 2 Toyota 4x4 Pickups, I put Smittybilt Tube bumpers, front and rear, on both. I was rear ended by a Ford Escort, the bumper had a couple of scratches and chipped paint, the Escort was totaled. It happened at a busy intersection at rush hour time, I drove away and he stayed waiting for a tow truck. The poor guy, everyone was yelling and beeping at him because he pretty much brought all traffic to a stand still.

A Smittybilt tube bumper is FAR MORE than any piece of crap brush guard. If the stock bumper is 1 and an ARB 10, I'd rate a brush guard a 3 and a Smittybilt tube bumper a 7.

Well yes now I can start to believe it. It sounded as if you were talking about a wagg or nissan one and that would not have happened with those.

Yup! Thats what I did. I saw the std. Nissan Grill Guard on another '02 and really liked the look so I would not sign the papers until the dealer worked one into the deal with installation. A $300 option plus whatever they would've charged me for installation is not bad huh?

I am not an offroader and mainly got the thing for looks anyway and I am fine with that. When my X gets a little older, and I won't be so worried about scratching it, I'll take her for some moderate off-roading.

I have read a few times about the brush guard bending and causing damage in an accident, but I guess that's just a risk I'll have to take to get the look that I want.

I drove along side this Mercedes ML 300 the other day on the interstate. We were probably going about 70mph. (maybe 65mph) His brushguard was vibrating either from the wind or from road vibrations. It was vibrating so much that I thought it might smack into his front end.

Dude, those things are so cheap, that you don't even need to hit anything - just driving at 70mph is risky.

I like the tail lamp guards, but I'm not paying 114.00 bucks for them. Anyone know where I can get them cheaper??
