Just purchased a 2002 sc and am planning to tow a 2400 lb tent trailer.

I am wondering if I need anti-sway bars given the short wheelbase.

Anyone have any experience with this or thoughts?

Hi Kirk,
We just bought our X about 2 weeks ago. We have a tent trailer about the same weight as yours. After the first 500 miles(the owners manuel said you can't tow the first 500 miles) we took it in to have the x wired for our trailer. We didn't have anymore or less sway then we had on our Chevy Astro Van, but we did experience alot of BOUNCE! Our teeth were chattering all the way to the RV place. So we bought a new receiver bar that was alot lower than the one Nissan gave us with our hitch. My husband said it handled alot better with the new receiver, but we still had that BOUNCE! What model trailer do you have?

Thanx for your reply,
We are pulling a Stardust Starcraft(2000 model year). We also just got rid of a Safari(GMC Version of the Astro). By bounce you mean a lot of up and down motion? The X has a fair bit of bounce already. Is the tongue weight to spec? I think this is 10-15% of trailer GVW.

Its good to know the sway is minimal. Did you have the trailer package on your X? Did you need to get the brakes wired or is there a wire already there? I haven't even had the trailer attached yet -- we are still getting snow.

Kirk,
We have the trailer package on the X, but we just got it wired for the lights on the trailer. We don't have trailer brakes on our 96 Coleman. As far as the bounce, it feels like the trailer just magnifies the Xterras bounce.
