I'm looking to design and weld my own bush bars. Can you tell me where I would be able to obtain CAD Data for the front end of a 2002 xterra? I'd like to model the bars in Pro/Engineer first, but need a model of the xterra front end to begin. I have the option of digitizing my own truck...but forsee that taking quite a while.
thank you.

Being a Cadd designer myself, I wouldn't think you can get a Cadd File for the Xterra unless you ask Nissan designers to sell you the data but that would probably be a dream...what you can do though, is probably take a picture of the front end of the Xterra and take the picture to a place where they could scan the picture to a Cadd File, you could try that...or just basically scale everything down on the front end and draw it yourself on Cadd....Good Luck...

How many CAD users do we have here?
I *know* Microstation and AutoCAD

I use MasterCam and Solid works here at college.
I could really use a Nissan logo, same as the hood ornament, in a CAD file if someone has it! Making a cool project for the X!

i know AutoCAD like the back of my hand, but unfortunately don't get to use it much anymore. i'm using Giza now (it's an interior design/furniture specification program. it's one of the most stupid programs i've ever used. made for the idiot, used by the idiot. oops, that's self-incrimination...)
good luck getting the measurements for the bumper. it'd take a lot of little measurements, cross-checking them a few times... but i doubt anyone has that laying around somehwere available to us. CALMINI or ARB should, but again- their willingness to give it up is unlikely.

It shouldn't be too hard to make an AutoCad object to look like the Nissan Logo. Just trace it and make it a block.

I know Unigraphics (I use v.18, and soon NX), SDRC I-DEAS & Metaphase, and CATIA. I use them everyday at work. Good luck getting a CAD file of an Xterra facia. They just don't float around on web. If you did get one out of Nissan, I'd be in CATIA format. That's what Nissan uses. By the way, AutoCAD sucks. Learn or use a real CAD system. Sorry.

That's why they've sold like a billion copies It's cheap, and works for just about everything in the drafting world (note the italics). I started modeling in 3D with Applicon (from Schlumberger) in 1986, raise your hand if you've ever heard of it. It used a gesture system for commands, something that is only now becoming popular on PC's (like in Mozilla). From there I moved a step back to AutoCAD 2.5 (actually the 8th version) and used it through release 12. Then I changed careers to programming, but use AutoSketch for odds and ends.

I've heard of Schlumberger and Aplicon. I use ProE primarily but very proficient with other CADs favoring ACAD. Been on CAD to some degree since 1984.

How about a good, easy to use CAD program that would be useful in finishing a basement??

The only thing I use it for is to view .dwg files that people send me because it's the only CAD package they have. We use nothing but CATIA, for design and engineering. Missler TopCAM and DelCam Powermill, for machining applications. Line and surface geometry products such as Mastercam, Surfcam, EZ-mill, Esprit and whatnot are old and inefficient in my book. Hopefully soon we will be using the CAM package in CATIA to generate toolpaths. That would be too cool, to machine everything from their native solid files. I've seen little that can top the 4th & 5th axis toolpaths we get from these products.

I know Unigraphics (I use v.18, and soon NX), SDRC I-DEAS & Metaphase, and CATIA. You must work for a Tier 1. I used to do the same for Tower Automotive. UGII was my favorite.
