Yor new plates have arrived around here already, I got a call from one guy today who said they just arrived.

laugh

BTW Jim, my Bud's with these new Gen X's need rear diff covers for the hybrid D-44's.

I'm thinking DOM tube with tabs that match the existing bolt holes, or maybe just a new thicker plate with peel off protection?

Whatcha think?

Yeah I guess we need to do that, had a few requests. A cover is definitely the way to go.

Mine arrived today. Jim was not kidding when he said sending them unpainted would allow him to "just slap a label on and ship". Talk about minimalist packaging (4 bare plates with labels stuck to them), but they look fine. Hopefully the mounting hardware box will arrive in a day or so.

Next step: clean, prime and paint.

How hard is that outside tank skid bracket to get on? It looks like you need a double jointed wrist. wink

Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

How much does the set weigh (what was the typical shipping weight)? individual weights?

probably the stock pieces weigh about 15 lbs combined.

Mike,

I think the shipping charge was around $140.00, and I'm in San Diego. Coincidentially, I think the weight is around 140 pounds.

They went on without too much trouble, there was a little bit of jostliing and cursing, but not much. Contrary to what Nick at Shrockworks told me, I did have to remove that front factory "plate" that goes from the back of the bottom of plastic at the center of the bumper to the frame. There is now just an open space and the oil filter is visible. I may try to cut up the old plate and find a way to put it back on until Shrockworks finishes a real front plate. Other than keep out mud and brush I am not sure that thing did much good anyway. I've already had to have it pounded back into shape as it was rubbing against the front sway bar after taking a bit of a hit.

Just to avoid any confusion....That diff skid is not ours.

We will have a replacement heavy duty Differential Cover out in a 3-4 weeks. The cover is the only area that's vulnerable. The outside ring will be 3/8" steel, so it will not ever peel back the way the one in the pics above did. The cover portion is 1/4" steel, so if you back into something, you will not dent the cover into the ring gear.

With this approach you also loose no ground clearance at what is already the lowest point of the vehicle.

Havent decided what to do on the non D44 axles. Probably a cap that will require some minor/quick welding.

Isn't the only real problem WITH the D44's anyway?

The HB's are already pretty damn tough.

(I agree about the ground clearance, that A/C skid is way too bulky, and will catch on things that WOULD have cleared the OEM axle.

Maybe if the A/C reversed the bolts, so that the "U" was down, and the threads were up, so nothing would protrude down, a round profile under the axle could be fit, and the horizontal brace could then be stepped in, closer to the axle/diff lines?)

So, Jim, I think your D44 solution would be less expensive and work better than the above, but I don't think you NEED a diff skid for the non -D44's.

I don't care for AC's skid. I hope Jim's solution is better. Besides, I like spending money on Jim's stuff anyhow...

Sorry Jim, did not mean to mislead anyone. I know shipping costs can be a sensitive issue. I just checked, shipping to my house in San Diego was only $92.00. Not sure how the $140 amount found its way into my brain, but is was definitely an error on my part.

Jim, Got my tracking numbers today, thanks. Question on that radiator skid for those of us without your bumper, will it have the laser cut Shrockworks logo in it?
