Jeep falls 200 feet down cliff
Jeep falls 200 feet down cliff; two dead
Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a Jeep with Missouri plates left the road on Black Bear Pass and tumbled down a cliff, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 4 p.m. in unincorporated San Miguel County. In heavy rain, the Jeep, heading west, was negotiating steep switchbacks down the mountain when it left the road and rolled at least 200 yards down the side of the mountain, said San Miguel sheriff's Sgt. Michael Westcott.
Colorado State Patrol officials were investigating the crash late Tuesday and did not identify the dead male and female, pending completion of the investigation and family notification. The victims have a large extended family on the Front Range, officials said.

I read the posts on the Jeep forum too, It is horrible. I could not imagine losing a club member. My prayers are with all, those X's traveling and those who lost a friend.

Right, seatbelts wouldn't have helped, but still, who the heck wouldn't have 'em on on Black Bear in the first place?

Well I'm back from GOX early. I had a very close call on one one of the trails we ran on Wednesday afternoon. I slid both right side tires off the trail on what should have been a very easy section of trail. The truck was sitting almost totally off the trail when it finally came to a stop, but was still rocking to the downhill side. I was freaked out!. It took about a half hour to get me out of the truck and another hour to get my truck back on the trail. I was such a mess that I could not even drive the upcoming obstacle on the trail. When we finally got back to camp I had already decided that it was a little too close of a call and ended my adventures at GOX. I drove the 12 hours home the next morning. I'm not done wheeling, just for a while. Nobody wants the trip of a lifetime to end a lifetime.

The Jeep incident on Black Bear wasn't the only one we experienced this week. We saw a fresh rollover on the backside of Schofield Pass on Friday morning.
The location of the rollover was well before the famed shelf road so hopefully it won't add to the stigma of the trail. The rollover appeared recent and the Jeep was in the creek about 75 feet below the road. The axles appeared to be broken but everything else appeared to be in working order.

We got a little information on Saturady from a tour driver.
The accident was on the 4th switch back.
We found this turn very tight this time. A couple people got tippy on this section. Adding rain, it would be terrifing.
The accident spooked a couple of us....making the trip down even more stressful..
