Well I will finally be moving to Hawaii tomorrow. My X has already beaten me there. Hopefully I should be able to pick it up the first day or two I am there.

I will be spending the next two weeks finding a place to live and getting set for school. Are there any upcoming meetings where I will get to meet all you guys?

Later,
Rudy

I hope so, we are long over due.. Todd should be getting back from Arizona in the next few days and I think he had some work he wanted to do on his X. My X is down for the count right now. I've kinda been on sabbatical from it, cracked LCA, fouled up MAF, and a dented gas tank. I have no idea when I'll be back up and running maybe around May. But I'm down to turn wrenches and spill some gear oil.

Well I got here and picked up my X from Sand Island. I just need to find a place for a safety inspection that will "overlook" wink my tires sticking out 1 1/2in from my fender and my suspension and body lift. I have an appointment for a Recon Inspection in May, but I am sure they are gonna fail me.

I am also looking for a place to live in the Wakiki area and Aiea Area. Wish me luck on that one too LOL.

Yeah, I tried two places down there around the jail and they both took one look at my X and said I need a Recon. I will just put my stock tires on when they get here and cross my fingers that I pass the rest.

Ok, so I had my Recon Inspection today... Lets just say this state is regulated by Nazis mad . I failed it terribly.

1. I need to Remove my PIAA Driving/Fog Lights bcause they are not DOT Approved
2. My rear brake light is obscured by my spare tire.
3. I need a wheel alignment within 30 days (to Vehicle Spec) since it the truck is lifted. My last alignment was this past FEB in TX and that isn't good enough.
4. I am missing reflectors on the side of my front bumper (Not on this version of Shrock).
5. I need to re-attach mudflaps to my wheel wells (the front fenders were sawzalled off) [Uh Oh !] .

I am glad I didn't have my Muddies on nor my roofrack with lights and light bar. I get a free reinspection if I get all of that done in the next 30 days and they are able to get me in for an appointment!

Yea. Took Brendan about 8 months before he finally got it. Ill put an ear to the ground and see if I can find a place to get you an inspection.

Thanks! Any help would be great. I just don't want to be driving around illegally, though the current law does not help with that situation.

Rudy, So no $hit there I was, stuck in traffic thinking about how you might be able to get a safety check. I think I found the answer. go see Bill on Maui and since they do not have Recon you will be in good shape. laugh Heck I might even be able to go over with you and ride shotgun.. [drink] You will have to spend the night over there and catch the return. Superferry only requires a valid registration, which I'm thinking your TX one is good.

Well it looks like I might have to set up a trip to Maui then. I will look into the registration thing and see if my TX registration is good enough. Thanks for the insight.

You guys are assuming we don't have the same stupid rules over here... Even without recon... When I had my pick up (this one):

If I had the 35s, I had to sign a waiver saying the truck had stock tires... When I switched to 33s, they didn't even take a second look... The lucky thing was that the bumpers and light bar were factory Nissan (even had "Nissan" stamped on the light bar)... But the lights (including the lights on the brush guard) had to be disconnected and nonfunctional to pass safety check... Welcome to the Hawaiianskaya Soviet Socialist Republic...

mad

In defense of the safety check guys, if you get stopped and ticketed, there is a stiff fine for the safety check guy... So, I think as soon as they see the registration address, you are gonna be toast... But hey, you never know... And the road to Polipoli is open again, so you could do some four wheeling...

Off to Reno tonight, but will be back in a week or so...

I have pretty much given up on trying to skip the Recon and am working to just pass it now. But even with that I am running into trouble. eek

I am trying to find a place to align my truck to the new specs for a lifted Xterra. I am having Firestone align it to "Manufacturer Specifications" tomorrow so that I can pass the Recon, but I will have to put it back to the modified to avoid tire wear. Hopefully Maui Off Road can do it...

No worries. They must really be clamping down on the inspection sites around here. I checked the other forums with same response. Hopefully I will be legal after my reinspection on 18 June!

I know a guy who will pass your truck without even really looking at it. Let me drop an email or two and see if I can get you his contact info. It may cost you a little more, but it's worth the lack of hassles.

I failed the Recon again!?! mad The Recon Nazi's failed me because my front (DOT Approved) side markers are "red" and not yellow and they were not lights.

I just want to go back to Texas where I am legal to drive if the vehicle started...

That's good news... Hoist one in honor of our fine system of laws protecting us from evil side reflectors... laugh
