Hi guys, I hope you don't mind me posting this as a noob. I'm putting together a little clean up for the four peaks area. Its become pretty trashed. I wanted to make sure the Xterra crowd is there. If anyone can make it that would be great! Thank you, Tim Huber
Where: Beeline Highway and Four Peaks Rd. (AKA NF-143)
Directions from Phoenix: Take the 101 to Shea and turn East (toward Fountain Hills). Take this to the Beeline (A.K.A. HW-87). Turn North (toward Payson) on the Beeline (HW87). Take this 15 miles. The turn is just before mile marker 204. Turn Right on Four Peaks Rd (NF-143) (east). Take the dirt road less than a mile to the restrooms and parking area. We’ll have someone here all day to help direct you to the areas being cleaned!
When: February 9th. 9am-3pm. (Come by to fill 1 bag or 20 whatever you have time for. Feel free to show up anytime between 9am-3pm and leave when you need to.)
What to bring: A desire to leave it a little better than you found it. Trash bags will be provided!
Recommended Items: Gloves, long pants, sun block, a hat, water, snacks.

QUOTE] Seriously! I'm trying to get a group of people out there from every group that uses the mountain. It seems like people are less likely to litter if the area is clean. Once it gets trashed folks feel like its okay. (I went out scouting for the clean-up last weekend and we saw a father and two little kids shooting. Sweet, but they had brought out their old dog house to shoot and leave there...) I'm hoping to see a large 4x4 showing, some mountain bikers, dirt bikers, and shooters as well.

Good to see we are gonna represent AZXC well at this clean-up. I would definately bring a trailer if you have one, that could haul a lot of trash.
I took a vote and this is going to be the OFFICIAL XCURSION for FEB. Especially since the Feb Xcursion was planned as being the same area we are cleaning!
***This is 2WD friendly!!!!
Adam, please make the changes to the website when you can, thanks a million!

You guys rock!! Thank you all so much! The trailer would be great! I'll have a few "roaming" crews so the trailer would work well for that and to haul filled bags back to the main meeting point. If you have a rake or shovel it might help to have. There is a lot of big trash, but it would be nice for all of the shells and glass.

A couple of updates!
www.goodgun.org has donated some money to the cause as a giveaway! As well as some members coming to help. I'm excited to see responsible shooters step up.
Oakley has given some sun glasses to give away.
The Tacoma Territory, Xterra Owners Club , Copper state cruisers, and Virtual Jeep Club have stepped up to make it an official run of theirs!
The Copper State Cruisers have stepped up with a giant grill that can cook 80 burgers at a time! YIKES thats a lot of cow. mmmm!
Some folks are bringing a rake if they can. Its not a neccessity, but it will help with the shells and glass being picked up!
The Forest Service is going to bring a couple of Roll Off Dumpsters too!

Virtual Jeepers are comin too.
Someone should call up all the local news stations / news papers. Get some good publicity for the 4Wheel community - rather than all the negative crap that normally floats around.

You've got connections, maybe you can get the GoDaddy girl out there bending over, picking up, who cares what she picked up.

I expect some folks from every manufacturer out there. Dirt bike, mountain bike, and hikers too. I've contacted every large media source in Phoenix and some small ones too. Not much of a response yet. If anyone has connections please use them. Please tell them to contact me and I'll get them information, pictures etc! Thanks guys!

Submit a press release of your own - There are online sites on which you can do that. The press may then pick up on it and come out to take some photos.

SOAZ - Replied to your PM with some links to Free Press Release Submission sites and a Press Release example. I send them all the time now for my home business and pick up a ton of hits on my site from it. So if nothing else - it will spread the word.

Hello again Rinky! Good to see that you are all over the place like me. This post #25 of the night.
I went ahead and signed up for each one of the press release sites. That is all new to me so I appreciate the info!
I hope you guys don't mind me posting the logo's. I want to give credit and thanks to the companies helping out.
I wanted to thank Border Construction Specialties for stepping up big with the giant grill. Brandon, the president of Copper State Cruisers has gotten burgers and the use of this trailer sized grill donated for the clean-up! Thank YOU!

If you CAN make it could you please go to the official clean-up website and click the RSVP buttons on the right side of the page below. It will really help me!
Count me in... Depending on scheduling I'll try to get Sheila out with the Fronty too.
I have a CB, FRS, and GPS (ok, a full blown laptop bolted to the car), and have been out there a few times recently if you're still looking for help there, hit me up.
I'm also setup with a winch, so I should be able to drag some old cars out too.
No need for prizes IMO though... Just keep the trail open.
Anyone have access to a small trailer... I'll tow it if you wont, it sure would have helped at the last clean up I was at with VJ?

Good question. We are concentrating on some really bad areas within about 10 miles of the Four Peaks parking lot. I have backup areas if we have that big of a turnout, but even they are within the 8 miles. Just down different roads. We should have plenty to do.

I know a lot of us have an SUV, Jeep or other "non" trucks. Although piling bags of trash in the back can work, many don't want to take the risk of hurting the interior of their vehicle or just don't have the room! If you have a hitch mounted bike rack you may have the perfect alternative. I simply looped the bag back on itself to make sure it gets a good grip and doesn't go anywhere. Take a look:
Keep in mind that the bags will sway around back there and I don't recommend any highspeed or highway driving with this set up. It may just make the difference in carrying enough trash to make a difference though.

I'll winch the crap up the hills ... That will put that winch to a good use ... I'd like to get the cars out for sure though. A couple weeks ago there was a new Jeep Comander sitting out there burned to the frame.

The burnt out cars seem all to frequent out there. We'll need to go VIN number hunting to see if there are some recognizable ones and then call them in to the sheriff. They like to handle the cars because they consider them crime scenes. Foretunately, they seem to be quick with the removal as they were with the FJ.

There is a Conoco at the 87 an Fort McDowell on the way to 4 Peaks where we usually meet for runs up that way.
Let's meet there at 8:00am to leave by 8:30am as a group.
Just wanted to re-post Tim's comment about the meeting time and place. I'll be at the Conoco by 8:00.
FYI, some of the guys from Club Frontier are participating in the cleanup as well.[/b]
Sorry guys... Sheila might make this meetup but I can't... SOAZ has asked me to be at the cleanup site at 8:00AM, Sheila may or may not be with me at that time (depends on if she sleeps in or not).
I'll see meet everyone at the cleanup site.

Madman, No worries! There won't really be any set-up. I'll still use you if you dont mind, as a team leader if not enough come at 8:00am. I just need a guy that can lead other folks up the road to a certain clean up spot (they'll be marked by number) and hand out bags, water etc. Just call on the radio if there is a problem etc. Go ahead with your guys at the meet up location.

A special thanks to Tim Huber (SOAZ) for organizing this event. It was amazing to see so many people get together to do such a great job cleaning up the trails. It was great to have the guys from Club Frontier join the AZXC to have a strong Nissan presence. We were able to quickly cleanup Site 1 and help with other sites on our way back to base camp.
Here are a few pictures from the event. As always, I wish I took more photos...
Sheriff's tricked out buggy
Cleanup Site1 AZXC, Club Frontier, a Land Rover, and a two Jeeps
This pile grew as the day wore on. There was a full rolloff dumpster that was also hauled out.

It was a lot of fun. I did make it out there. I met onix real quickly (I was the idiot that didn't get gas on my way out). Wish I could have gone out to the site that ya'll were at, but I didn't want to risk running out of gas. I ended up helping out at site 6 and was the one that found the handgun. Anyway, we had to take off at about 12pm. Next time I'll plan better.

That was a good day, Tater. No seriously THANK YOU to everyone who was able to show up, help out and represent AZXC.
Big thanks to Onix and AZ-Ted for rolling out there with trailers and missing the quick run to the Coves afterward.
I hope that we can be a part of that event next year or if SOAZ puts together another one before that. It was really cool to see so many wheelers of every make & model out there working for one cause.
Thanks, Tim...you really had this set-up well and the results definately reflect that.

First off its great to see the sponsors getting some press and print. They deserve every bit of it. Secondly, I've signed up to be a member of the Blue Ribbon Coalition. You get the magazine they send out, the latest with the cleanup in it, and it makes you feel great. BRC and Tread Lightly are just great and I want to support them. Enough talking. The link is below to the digital version of the BRC magazine about the clean-up. Enjoy!! Tim Huber
