Stereo Swap....is it possible?

I have read a number of posts about this exact topic but they did not answer my question 100%. My question is two-fold; first I am looking for the Model #'s of both the "premium" stereo of the 2000 model (AM/FM Stereo, cassette and CD) and that of the "premium" stereo of the 2001 model (AM/FM Stereo RDS, 6 disc in-dash changer), secondly, does anyone know if the RDS stereo will fit in my 2000 without too much trouble? Both systems are 100W and utilize the same speakers, and I am hoping that the swap will be achievable as the newer system has the features I am looking for (without voiding my warranty by installing an aftermarket system). On the dealership level, they do not yet know if such a thing is possible (they don't even know the part number of the RDS system yet). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Im sorry but I dont know the answer to part 1 of your question. As for part two, the hole is the same size, (2 DIN), so they should fit fine. Everything else, (speakers and power), will just plug in. The question I have for you is why are you reluctant to install an aftermarket stereo? I am not sure what warranty you are concerned with voiding. Most good aftermarket stereos have great warranties of thier own. ------------------ Xavier "I said, Reading is GOOD, can we start the story now?" The radio is a 2 DIN, not a 1.5 DIN. GM vehicles and Chrysler vehicles have 1.5 DIN openings.
I just didn't want anybody to go buy a 1.5 DIN radio and try to make it fit.

I am sorry about that, I didnt even notice that put 1.5 instead of 2! I have edited my post to reflect the correct info. Thanks Bayou ------------------ Xavier "I said, Reading is GOOD, can we start the story now?"

My only real reason for not wanting an aftermarket stereo was that I don't really like the looks of the ones I have seen. I also don't really care for have a dash of 15 different colours at night. Plus the buttons on most are so damn small. But hey, I am open to someone suggesting a good brand that has white illumination, larger buttons and is good quality. Back on the stock stereo, does anyone know how much the RDS version would be?

I'd look at Alpine, Alpine and maybe CLarion.. I know they make a 'bigger' version to take up the whole bay with bigger buttons.. How ever.. For the single color.. I think you might be out of luck.. Not sure..=-) Personally.. I'm looking at kenwood mp3 player..=-) ------------------ - Josh '01 SuperBlack XE 4x4 V6 3pak Utah Xterra Owners Club - http://www.uxoc.org

APP, is this the system you have? I must admit that it is sweet ...however, do they have the same thing but in a multiple disc changer format? ------------------ '00 Super Black SE 4X4 Manik Brush Guard w/ PIAA 520s aka "Buddy X"
