I am staring at Hayness manual and its mentioned there that good pratice is to disconnect batteries and disconnect air bag sensors before getting to installation/removing of stereo.

Then again - looks like hell of effort, so question is - did anyone actually follow such practice? Or i shouldnt worry about high matters and just go and start ripping dash apart? 8)

Disconnect your Negative Batt post and you should be ok...be sure to take care when working around airbag sensors reguardless.

just finished installing - now me X got new MPV619 stereo.. whohoo.. finally no need to burn those audio disks from MP3 8)

here they are, and some procedure description (altough i think it was covered before many times, but just for the heck of it)

used tidbits:
KENWOOD KDC-MPV619 CAR CD MP3 PLAYER
screwdriver (phillips head)
some isolation tape
cutting knife
Scosche NN03B wiring harness kit
Scosche nissan stereo installation kit

how it was done:
0) disconnect "-" battery. Let it sit for about 10 mins.

1)took out both screws from underneath of ashtray (taking out ashtray first would really help 8))

2) ripped out ye old stereo

3) assembling wiring harness (that thing is a godsend 8)) to the wiring of new stereo. Isolating connection ends, waterproofing them (you never could be tooooo carefull with that stuff).


4) sticking in installation kit (scosche stuff. Got it from sounddomain.com for like 6$). Had to rip off few plastic bits, b/c slots for dash cover got in a way (and kit sppse to fit Xterra 2000.. haaah).

5) putting it all together, bolting stuff back.

6) realizing that extra bit of stereo cover is actually wider than cut in dash cover. Had to use cutting knife to remove some bits from stereo cover so it would stick on. (dont wanna cut dash cover. What if i would change stereo later again 8))

thats how it would look in day 8)



and without face plate (removable. with special pin security code btw. luckily we dont have that much crime around here.. but you never know)


and another cool bit: changeable lit colors.



Entire procedure took about 15 mins. out of which about 10 i spend assembling wiring and trying to find waterproof stuff 8) Not so bad, considering it was first time in my life when i had to install car stereo 8)

Checked CD playback - good.
Checked MP3 playback - very good. Was riding rather bumpy road - no skipping or pausing. No huge interruptions between songs (far less than 1 s pause. Pretty much not noticeable)
FM/AM - as usual ok.
Dont have Sirius tuner yet - but planning to get one - to check out how that sattelite stuff would turn on.
