Anyonw know of a good place to mount a Pioneer 12-disc (CDX-P1250) changer?
I "just" bought my 2001 Xterra SE and am facing the difficult question of where best to mount it.

The head unit (for those of you wondering) will be a Pioneer MiniDisc (MEH-P5050) Head unit. I'm also planning on a Realistic PRO-2067 scanner to fill in the whole left by the double DIN stereo comming out.

Speakers and Amps to follow later on as the budget allows

Anyone have any ideas??? I'd love to hear them!

If you search this topic, you'll find a couple threads on where people have installed the changer. Nice choice on head unit, I just bought the DEH-P8200R.

There's always the stock location: rear, left hand side of the cargo bay.

Just a thought, but you could upgrade the center console and install the cd changer there.

I would fit it into the dash but.... If you read my post above, I'm adding both a new head unit and an scanner to fit into the hole left by the stock head

I'm sorry, when I said center console I was talking about the console that's in between the front driver and passenger seats (you know, the one with the cup holders and little storage compartment?). Sorry for any confusion.

My friend has one installed there in his Tahoe. Of course the Tahoe's center console/arm rest is bigger than the Xterra's hence the reason for an upgrade.

Yep, the centre console swap is the way to go, even with a CD changer in place, you'll have tons of room left over, although I tested for a 6 disk, not sure of the size of the one you are looking at. Steelhorse makes a unit that is almost a straight swap. More info at pics are at my geocities site.

xcanuk: Nice idea! That center console looks like a perfect fit for the X. I'm planning on doing the same thing in the near future. May have to hit you up for some tips right before I start, though. Good pics!

See my post above... If you are wondering, I've had mine in for a year now, and its durable. I listed all the part numbers at my site as well, doubt if anyone will have problems with the install.. if you do, just email.. several others have followed the little mod and are happy with it.
