Hey gang, I am about to start installing speakers in my 02. I already have a set of fronts: Alpine SPS-170A 6 1/2" 2-Way Speakers (Pair): Alpine sps-170A The rears I have not purchaced yet, but was looking at either one of these two: Alpine SPS-690A 6" x 9" 3-way Speakers (Pair): http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=alpsps690a&store=&catid=360 Pioneer TS-A6980R 6" x 9" 4-Way Speakers (Pair): http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=piotsa6980r&store=&catid=360 I wanted to see if anyone had any pics of speaker installations, any other speaker options for under $100, or anything else before I rip apart my X. Thanks for all the help, Joe

I would go with the Alpine 6x9's out of those two since you already have the 6.5" fronts, the Alpine 6x9's will be timbre matched. I don't have any pics but the install was pretty straight forward. Your basic remove panels, remove stock speakers, cut wires, make/buy spacer for front door speakers, put all back together. Have fun and enjoy.

I think it's around 2.5" before you interfere with the window. To play it safe, I would recommend making a spacer out of 3/4" MDF. You can trace the factory plastic housing for the shape and scew holes then cut out the circle for your new speakers. The MDF will provide a more solid mounting surface that mounting it directly to the metal of the door. While you have the door skins off, you may want to think about adding some sound damping. A little extra money, but well worth the investment.

In my 04 I have the component version of those Alpine front speakers along with the same rear speakers and a JL 12 sub. Pioneer HU and powered by an Eclipse 5 channel 300W amp. Sounds great.

If I cut MDF and make the spacers, and thus adding about 1/2" of spacer, what happens to the door panel itself?? Do I loose the OEM cover and need to use the speaker cover? Am I forced to cut the Door panel piece out?? Just wondering... UPDATE: http://www.nissanoffroad.net/how_to/6x9speaker/rear_speaker_install.asp just found this Too bad there is nothing about the sizes and whatnot, but its better than nothing and yes, when I do this, I will be taking pics. Just wondering... Not at all. There is around 1.5-2" of space on the front of the speaker before hitting the door panel. plenty of room.
