Can it be done?? I have an '03 X w/ the "Rockford Fosgate" (so called, even though the amp has a Clarion sticker on it )system.. Is it possible to use an aftermarket HU w/ this setup?? If so, let me know.. Any help is much appreciated, and thanks in advance..

If I remember correctly there is a small label on the amp saying Rockford Fosgate. And no the amp is really small and with no special features or adjustments. Though I can't speak for the 03's, but I assume it's the same, but with different badges.

Yup, on the '03 the amp is still under the head unit, but when I took the panels off a few days ago, the label on it said "Clarion".. Interesting, hey.. So, they are high level inputs, SO I guess that means any head unit can get hooked up..

You can put an aftermarket headunit on in there but it wont sound right since the RF speakers were only like 1.9 ohms or so! I gutted all that Fosgate crap outta mine and went with full aftermarket setup. Now the only thing that sucks is that RF logo on the lower dash and I dont have any RF stuff in my truck!

Question though.. If I do put in an aftermarket H/U and the speakers are only 1.9 ohms, should it matter if I leave the stock amp in the car?

That is what I did, just swaped out the in dash cd and put in my old Sony Xplod, sounds way better! Not know a heck of a lot about this stuff I was worried that the RF amp would distort or even fry my head unit but 6 months later it is okay.
I also added another amp and sub but that all ran out of my Sony not the stick amp.
Next task, swap out the speakers.
So, go ahead you should be good
