#293583 - 09/07/04 07:44 AM FACTORY SPEAKERS QUESTION

So glad I found this forum today! Have a quick question... I have a 2001 Salsa Red Xterra SE. I just recently installed a Pioneer 50x4 MP3/WMA/CD player (it's great 150 songs fit on 1 CD!), a Kenwood 800W amp, and a box with two 10" Kenwood subs. I cut off the bass to my 4 factory speakers, but kept the mid range halfway up. I would like to get that nice clean high sound out of the factory speakers. Would you guys recommend I go get higher quality speakers (two front 6.5s and two rear 6x9s) or just keep what I have.

I hope I explained this well. Basically I want crisp clean sound with the nice punch my subs give.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

rsdigi -

you'll never get good sound from factory speakers. xterra's take a true 6" speaker up front, last I checked. Check out JL's VR600

(towards the bottom)

You can find them on ebay for less then $100

Also, no head unit will power aftermarket speakers the way an outboard amp will. Consider a 2x or 4x amp to power your new speakers...it'll be money well spent.

Personally, I got myself a PPI PCX440 (4x40) for my internal 4 speakers. It was $$$, but I'll never need another amp again. Already made it through two other vehicles and about to go in the X. You can find the PCX440 for $150 refurb'd on ebay.
