Today I did some experimentation where I was "trying on" some new tires and rims. I got out my 2-1/2 ton rolling floor jack and slid it under the front end of my X where the designated lift points are and started pumping. Only problem is the jack was totally vertical and did not lift the vehicle off the ground. It did not raise high enough so I was forced to take out the factory supplied jack and it worked fine. A little more exercise for me in 90 degree weather but it worked. I didn't want to risk safety and use blocks on the floor jack. Just wanted to point this out to those of you looking to buy a floor jack. I do have a hi lift jack on the way but its not here yet.

Where would you use the high-lift? I thought there was some discussions about it being kind of useless on the Xterra, unless you had an ARB bumper up front (or similar), and a hitch in the back. If there is a reasonable way to use it, off to the store I go to buy one.

I got a floor jack with (I think) 21" of lift. Had no problem rotating the stock tires last weekend with the jack under the frame in the front. I had to shop around a bit to find one with that much lift though.

I found a floor jack at Sears for 99 bucks on sale with jackstands. It lifts 19.25" inches and is plenty to get the wheels off the ground using the jack points or the frame.
