Why doesn't it fit sideways in the glove box?

Because the glove box can only hold gloves...
A poor design by Nissan.

Stick it under the seat, or memorize it and leave it in the garage.

Or do what I did and get one of these and keep your manual, registration, insurance, etc. in it, it fits in the pocket on the back of the passenger seat perfectly. It's an aluminum form holder, Staples SKU # 46313, $23.

??? My manual fits in the glove box. It's a bit tight, but it's in there, and with room left for a cell phone, Advil bottle, and misc. other stuff. Is there a difference between '00 and '01 glove box sizes?

After seeing the 2002 up close at the Plant Tour. They made the glove box wider. Unless they make the manual bigger, it will fit.

I also have problems fitting mine in. And then when I start to stick it in, I have to pull it right back out. It really sucks because it starts to bend in half a little bit. Most of the time I just slide mine into her back hatch! It fits damn good there!

Hey Brent,
Good idea on the aluminum form holder. I wouldn't have bought one because I don't want it sliding all over the place. Now I know it fits in the pocket, I will check it out.

Yeah, it's handy in many ways, glad I got it, though at the time I was thinking I just wanted something "rugged" for my X ya know?

Check out the glove box organizer at Case Logic. http://www.casedirect.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe?SKW=PROD,k102102&FNM=01&UID=2001070615344739

It will hold the owners manual, reg + insurance cards, a couple of pens and a tire guage. Fits well in the door pocket too. Only $7.95.
