xterraintx Member Registered: 23/12/00 Posts: 2352 Loc: Eddy, TX..	I searched Bayckyard mechanics but did not get a good answer. I changed oil this weekend and discovered a torn CV boot. Driver side at engine side. Should I replace the entire CV or just the boot? Has anyone replaced just the boot? I already have a spare used CV but like having it for the trail. I need to do whichever this weekend as I am going to Oklahoma for the Memorial day ride. _________________________ "Caribbean Soul land locked in Texas"

I think Andy at nissan4wheelers replaced a boot on his Frontier while it was still IFS. If I recall correctly getting the new boot over the joint was a pain in the ass. Like Carlton said if it still has grease in it and doesn't look too dirty you should be safe with just changing the boot. I bought a set of spare boots from Xterraparts I've never been able to use. Both came with a packet of new grease.

Roger, I changed the drivers side at goneMOAB last year at Ian's condo and I've done a the passenger one on the side of the trail before. In both cases the only thing I didn't have (but was able to borrow) was a floor jack and jack stands. I can do it without them, but it makes life easier to have them.

Anonymous Unregistered	Roger (and Steve), nothing I'd wanna' do on a trail, but I did one of mine in a garage not too long ago.. This is from that post- Quote: Replaced one today (passenger side). -Removed hub -removed snap ring -loosened UCA ball joint bolts -removed brake caliper (piston held open w/ zip tie); set on UCA out of way -removed steering stop bolt (to allow rotor to move forward further) -removed bottom shock bolt, and loosened top nut all of that allows LCA to drop providing enough room for insertion -removed remainder of grenaded interior cage -Slid new assembly into place -replace bolts into cage -replace snap ring -replace hub -replace ball joint to UCA -replace brake calipers -replace steering stop bolt -tighten shock back down Here's a link to the carnage- Inner cage destruction I'm bringing an extra assembly (and other stuff too :rolleyes: ) to GONE, so rock on!

Dan, I wish i'd read this before starting we tried doing it without removing too awful much We finally just did as you did to get it out and the replacement back in. Had to replace the UCA bushings anyway so we pulled it too. Now I have idler arm bushing to get and replace. _________________________ "Caribbean Soul land locked in Texas"
