Who is up for a ModDay on March 19th? One of our members needs help with his Calmini suspension lift. We will *probably* hold this one at Roger's house in Waco, provided he OKs it of course, as that would be a good central location. If you can attend to help, watch and learn, or need help with mods of your own, speak up!

Hey, I need to try and do a timing belt change. Think this is something we could tackle? We could make a nice write up for it.

I'd love to be involved (help) with a timing belt change... Mine's not due yet - but it is coming.

Lol--I haven't done engine work on a vehicle since my 1969 Ford pickup I drove in high school/college. I think under the hood parts have changed pretty drastically since then.
Now if you need some fiberglass work or some bling added, I'm the girl for it. Or whoever changes my timing belt, I'll wash their X.

Roger is going to host ModDay at his place in Waco, this Saturday.
He will post/give out directions/phone numbers as the day approaches.
On tap will be Rudy's suspension lift. Others can work, get help on their projects as needed.
What time shall people come banging on your door Roger? 0800? 0900?

I might go down... I'd like to fool with my truck a little - but I still haven't gotten it aligned and don't want to drive it that far - so I'll prolly take the Honda if I do go (the trip will go faster anyway )

8 or 9 is fine if anyone wants to come earlier or even Friday is fine with me. I'm posting detailed directions but for MapQuest it's 734 Hodge Road in Eddy, Texas 76524
Exit 315 off I-35 head West on 107 towards Moody. Go straight through the Metropolis of Eddy for a mile or so. When the buildings stop on the right that is Mackey Ranch road. Turn onto it... houses and trailers on the right empty acres on the left. Hodge Rd is the first left off Mackey Ranch. There is a subdivision restricted community sign. My house is 5th on the right... nothing but the empty acres on the left. 254-859-3333 HP or better 254-498-7967 cell
I think I have all the tools we may need. Could use a HD impact wrench if you have one mine is basic.
I have never done the timing belt... My son Scott will be here and he as done quite a few just never an Xterra if you want to try.
Plenty of room for your dogs to run if you bring them... and they get along with my easy going labs.

Scott, just bring the puppy to keep mine occupied! My son says the timing belt is easy as long as we have the timing marks. I have the pdf manuals but no Chilton's or Hayne's if anybody has either please bring it. He also said you should do the water pump at the same time since it will be apart and save a lot down the road.

Had a lot of fun... worked on Rudetanker's suspension lift and Tracy's timing belt. I feel a little bad about leaving last night with stuff unfinished - but I had to get in a full day at the office today. Hope it all turns out okay

Nope no pics... I'll try and post details later. Worked till 10;30 sat night and Rudy and Tracey had to stay the night as we were not done with either truck. Sunday we finished Tracey's after 7:00 and did not finish Rudy's till about 10:30. Too many little challenges kept slowing us down Thanks to all and very sorry and appologize to Tracey and Rudy for taking so long.

OK... things went pretty normal with Rudy's lift nothing that has not been seen on any of the other Calmini lifts. Just took awhile with interuptions and stopping to work on Tracey's. Tracey's was an experience for anyone that has not done or seen it done. Wasted a lot of time because I did not have a harmonic balancer puller. Friggin Advanced Auto said they had one it was 8:00pm but drove to get it. Got there and they could not find it Sold me a larger 2 Jaw Pulley remover that they said would work. Well it did not and all the other places were now closed. Sunday I bought one at Autozone (last one they had) got home and the metric bolts it had did not fit. Another trip to buy correct bolts then returned and it worked like a champ. Finished and put it back together... now have squealing noise like a pulley or belt and could not locate. Made calls (thanks Carlton) but still no result. Chk Engine light comes on another trip to Autozone and they check and tell us it's an intermittent fireing of a cylinder. Also now have a knock sensor error because of this. Unplug without clearing (they would not as policy) but light went out and has remained out. When we removed number one plug for TDC check it was a bit corroded and we chaulked it up to that. Engine was running smooth and no vibration or Harley type challenges. Returned home but could not locate that squeal. Because of lateness Tracey decided to drive it home to Austin. At hwy speeds all semms normal???? I appologize once more for keeping Tracey and Rudy so late. I also thank my son Scott for hanging with us and doing the work. This morning Tracey took it in and they said it was coming from the timing belt... We did not replace the tensioner and spring (not available) and I REALLY hope that is all it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOO this weekend at my place we are doing it again. If you want to help or see it done come on over It should be a lot quicker job as we have the tools and will not have to do the waterpump as we did yesterday. IF YOU MECH HEADS have any suggestions please let me know!!!!

Roger, sorry the link I'd posted wasn't much more help to ya'll. There's a thread on N4W about timing chain swaps right now with some very technical looking illustrations and instructions. It's for the VG30 series engine, if that doesn't help, post up your questions there. They're very knowledgable and can certainly help you get'r done. Good luck again, Dan Edit to add- Aww hell, here you go CLICKY-CLICKY

yikes... sorry about that Roger.
I was wondering - based on the link that DBAX posted before - if the tensioner was going to be a problem.
Sounds like it is worth it to buy the full-on timing belt replacement kit and not skip anything.
