Alright, on the news the other day they showed that the gas price in ABQ is .01 above the national average of $2.22. Since I thought that $2.23 was a lot, what is everybody else paying and where? Anybody under $2.00?

$2.34, 4th highest in the county and probably the worst economy in the country.

USA Today ran an article saying that the all the state's averages are above $2 now. New Jersey was the last state to reach the $2 average with a $2.02 average and California overtaking Hawaii with the top spot at like $2.44. locally our average is about $2.19.

$2:23 is the cheapest I can find here in Arizona. I'm considering the Acetone option!

2.51 at chevron, 2.48 at shell and the real bargain, 2.44 at Valero!
I'm so tired of this, there is no logical reason for prices to be so high. Last time I looked, there was no shortage, no rationing, no lines at the gas stations, just pure price gouging. Don't tell me the bullshit line about "adjusted for inflation it's cheaper that in the 70's" I don't fucking care about the 70's, the oil companies are making Billions in profits every quarter At least kiss me first, OK fellas...

Here in Denver, I think I paid 2.13 this morning for midgrade after a 6 cent/gallon discount at Safeway (every time you buy over $50 ? bucks in groceries, they give a $.06 per gallon discount, or a $.03 per gallon discount anytime for members (and their prices are already lower. (that was also before I got responses and did research on 85 vs 87 octane gas). I'll be going w/85 next time. I think that'll put me at $2.03 or $2.06 per gallon.
I am getting about 16mpg after my 1st tank in city driving.

I was in Montreal last week and it was $0.99 (cdn) a litre It is around $.85 and $.91 here in Ottawa. So if my math is right (highly suspect)... Using $.85 CDN/Litre at an exchange rate of 1 CAD = 0.818 USD that means I am paying $0.695 USD/litre There are 3.78 litres in a US gallon We are paying $2.627 USD/USG Things that make me wonder if I'm getting screwed... Some Canada facts.. "Goodale previously predicted the surplus for the current fiscal year will likely come in at about $8.9 billion." -why do I pay so much in taxes?? "Canada’s total oil production (including all liquids) was 3.1 million barrels per day (bbl/d) in 2004, making it the seventh-largest oil producer in the world." -we have plenty of water here and it's cheap, why not the gas? "According to Oil and Gas Journal, Canada had a reported 178.8 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in 2005, second only to Saudi Arabia." -giddy-up how about putting some of that surplus into getting that oil outta the mud so I can get cheaper gas.. stoooopid government

I remember when it was .32 cents, my mom would get $2.00 worth and they would clean the windshield and check the oil.
$2.38 here right now and I have to check my own oil, pump my own gas, and wash my own windshield. At that price, I should get an engine rebuild with a full tank.

I totally would not be surprized if we here actually to $3.00 or more this summer for regular since the highest-demand month for gasoline is July. If the demand increases and the supply stays the same - the prices will increase as well.
That's not a comforting though...thank God I don't drive a Hummer.

$2.36 on the military bases, $2.48 up to $2.64 in San Diego...saw prices all the way up to $2.79 for regular when I took I-5 up to San Fran last week. (Oh, yeah...and it's $2.67 for diesel?!?!)
Everyone wondering why the price of gas keeps rising? China has had an 800% increase in the number of privately-owned automobiles in the last 18 months. It's not American SUV owners driving up the market...it's developing economies in China and India.

I paid $1.98 over the weekend. And I didn't have the get out of the truck to pump it either. The ONLY good thing about Jersey is the cheap gas prices. Stone

I keep hearing all about the average, two days ago they said San Fransisco was the nations highest at $2.53... This after our local prices went to $2.55...
Today, one of the lower priced stations was at $2.59, $2.69, and $2.79. I don't want to think about what Chevron and Texaco and the like are charging.

Alabama. Cheapest stations just today lowered their price to $2.129 a gallon. I think I might have seen one station doing a ballsy "mini-gas-war" at $2.099. Typical price right now, for the most part, is about $2.159 a gallon. What really galls me is that it now costs me about $0.43 a day to drive to work and back.

$2.35 here in Cumberland WI, but if I drive 30 miles to MN I can find it for $2.08. Time to get the 86 Chevy Sprint (50 mpg) out of the shed and drive it for a while and only use the X for longer trips. Between that and the Honda CB1100 I should be good for a while. Tom

Unleaded Regular has gone up 20 cents in the last 5 days here in So. California... One Chevron in town is getting $2.59 the other thief is charging $2.89. and Arco is $2.49. We have no attendants at stations here you pump your own and pay the robber inside wearing the mask.

I don't understand how the stations get away with raising the price when the fuel is already in the ground and paid for at a given price. Logic tells me that it would be the next shipment at a higher price would be when they raise it ,but I see them do it all the time before the next truck shows up . It really starts to hurt when your commute is 86 miles round trip.

Take a look at this, its from an email a friend of mine sent me
The Saudis are boycotting American goods.
We should return the favor.
An interesting thought it to boycott their GAS.
Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.
Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.
I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell............................. 205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels
If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!
Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Citgo.......................0 barrels Sunoco...................0 barrels Conoco...................0 barrels Sinclair.....................0 barrels BP/Phillips..............0 barrels Hess........................0 barrels ARCO......................0 barrels
All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.
Return the favor, boycott their gas.

Some fun facts that fit this topic:
Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ........ $10.32 per gallon Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ...... $10.17 per gallon Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 . $10.00 per gallon Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 . $33.60 per gallon Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ..... $123.20 per gallon Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ......... .. $25.42 per gallon Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .......$84.48 per gallon And this is the REAL KICKER... Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

The average here for 87 octane in western PA is $2.20-$2.22
For some reason, the Sunoco up the street is 4-5 cents cheaper than everyone else in the area BP, Costco, Get Go, etc.
Yesterday it was $2.15 there.

Yes and I wasnt trying to say your post was stupid, but I have heard people use that rationale to make you 'feel better' about gas prices.
It would be nice if whatever product we used instead of petroleum, could be bought from other Americans.

Hey andrew h, Just wanted to let you know that BP and Amoco are the same company, as well as Conoco and Phillips are the same company. as far as gas prices go, you only hear about the cost of gas where they want to tell you from, here in Anchorage the cost is about the same as across the country, I pay between $2.20 to $2.40 a gallon, depends on the station, but you go outside of Anchorage and you start working your way up to $5.00 a gallon. Higher the farther out you go like the villages around the state.

$2.29 here in Louisville. It was at $2.35, but dropped yesterday.
A radio station did a promo last week, though... Had a gas station in town sell for $1.03 for 1 hour. They emptied their tanks in that amount of time.

I live near a safeway grocery store with a gas station. The regular unleaded there is $2.19, yet a block a way, a "regular gas station" is $.10 more per gallon. In addition, I get an ADDITIONAL $.06 off each gallon w/my safeway card.
So... I'm getting regular for $2.13, when it's $2.29 a block away... and am curious how that works. Does Safeway (or any major store w/a gas station attached - Walmart, King Soopers, etc) just give up their gas profits on the gas and use it as a customer draw?? (It worked on me). I feel kind of bad for the neighborhood gas station a block away... but hey... but that's a few bucks per tank I'm saving.
Kind of the same dilemma between heading to Home Depot vs. my neighborhood True Value store, which is always more expensive. I like to support the little guy, but saving $$$ is hard to argue with sometimes.

It's up to $2.31/gallon on average for regular in Mesa, AZ. I was watching the news and they reported a story of a gas station in some remote part of California. The gas is $3.79/gallon for regular unleaded. The gas station owner was saying he pays a premium for gas because it is so difficult to truck it in.

Our local prices (Alabama) just dropped a few cents yesterday, and one more today, from $2.15 to $2.12 to $2.11. I put $15 in to get me around this weekend. Thought I might play the market for Monday.

SouthernX: Florida has a lot higher gas taxes, though.
We were floored when we came down for Spring Rally. We filled up at home for $1.83 or $1.89 (early March) and found the cheapest in Florida at $2.09. Of course, when we got back home, the cheapest in Alabama was $1.95.
I never gripe about my X's gas mileage, but I've had a couple of well-thinking people suggest that I buy an economy car to drive for longer distances. OK, let's look at that option:
Now: Truck payments: $0 (paid for) Truck insurance: $90/month Gas expenditure: $120/month Total: $210/month
With Car: Car payments: $150/month Truck and car insurance: $140/month Gas expenditure: $60/month Total: $350
Someone remind me where $350 a month is cheaper than $210 a month.

Then for cross country, they have a train system. Guess what... In the US, in major cities, we have buses, subway or light rail (depending on the city). And for cross country, we have Amtrak OR Greyhound. Quit your bitching. Europe's mass transit ISN'T any better than ours. It's just that they don't have to travel as far to get from one end of a country to another. Get a better arguement. Yours has way too many holes...

It's $2.45 for regular here. I'm looking for a Geo (or such) to drive...the Xterra is parked except for special use! Costs me $80 round trip to get to work and back (I come home about twice a month) in the Xterra and I drove the neighbor's Suzuki Swift for $25 round trip!!!

Let's not even touch Greyhound...that's a joke bringing them up.[/b]I agree, and I HAVE been to Europe (Germany, France, and Austria). Our mass transit system is SHIT compared to Europe's. You can get hourly trains to just about anywhere. In America you might be able to get three Greyhounds a day. Comparing Europe's clean, fast, and on time trains to America's Greyhounds is a F&%@ing JOKE! I've ridden trains in Europe that go 225 KPH (thats 140 MPH for the metrically challenged) try that on a Greyhound or Amtrak. People in Europe also use bicycles which they can take on any train (they have special cars for bicycles) you CAN'T take a bicycle on a Greyhound (well you can take a disassembled, boxed bicycle for an extra fee), I don't know about Amtrak I've never ridden one, the closest station is in Atlanta approx 100 milea away. In Europe you can get a train in ANY city. And as for the countries in Europe being smaller, people in Europe cross borders just like we cross state lines.

Bicycles and Mass Transit isn't the reason that Europes fuel prices are high though.
I have been all over Europe a number of times, there are tons of cars. So, the argument that everyone rides bikes and takes mass transit is the reason that gas is so high is a joke.

Agree that gas shouldnt be traded as a commodity though. If you haven't been, then you don't know. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence... But you don't know, 'cause you haven't been. I have. Takes over an hour to go 20 miles from the airport, to the city of Paris, on the light-rail/subway system. And that's a non-stop, direct train. By the time your whining arse has stood in line, bought the ticket, waited for the train, rode the train, gotten to your stop, and exited the subway, I would have rented a car, driven, and had been sitting there waiting for you for over a half an hour... And that's just a 20 mile trip... But the reasons Europeans in the major cities use public transportation, and use bicycles, more than we do in the US, is directly the result of 1 thing. Just 1. It's not the price of oil. It's not the "great" mass transit systems. It's not 'cause they like to ride their bikes more. The 1 reason is simple. Parking. European cities, and their streets, have been around for thousands of years. Which means most of the streets are only wide enough for 2 horse/buggies to pass each other, w/ no extra room on the side. You can drive whatever car you want, over there, but if you can't park it, then you've got a bit of a problem... The city streets, for the most part, are just too dam narrow to be efficient for moving auto traffic. So Europeans use mass transit, because that's their ONLY choice. In Paris and London (two cities I've been to), a Porsche 911 is a large car compared to most everything that's on the road. A Mini Cooper is larger than most everything on the road. Do you think people like to fold themselves into these things?? Heck no. No more so than we would. But if you want to drive a car, then that's what you have to buy, becuase you have to have something small to fit on the roads, and to be able to find a parking space. Mass transit in Europe is defined by the lack of space. We don't have that problem, here, and probably never will. But not a bit of that has anything to do w/ the price of oil.

How expensive does gas have to get before you have to start making lifestyle-reduction choices?
Let's say you want to take a roadtrip, like to goneMOAB and let's say Moab is 1200 miles from your home. Assuming 16mpg, that's 150 gallons roundtrip. At $2.50/gallon that's $375 for gas just to get to Moab. That doesn't include gas consumed while wheeling. If gas goes to $3.00/gallon, that's $75 less you have for stuff like food, etc.
I wonder how high gas will have to get to significantly reduce driving-based tourism in the US...

Gas in Western PA is about 2.20 for 87...
I've ridden the motorcycle everyday for the last three weeks, filled up once. It's helps that I only live about 4 miles from work...
Bike doesn't help when it's snowing etc though...

most major brand stations by me are around the $2.05-$2.10 mark for 87, but you can find the generic stations that are holding their prices at $1.99 for 87 and boy are they constantly busy!

So WTF? Michigan ($3.832 average) is only outpriced by Oregon ($3.995), California ($4.002), Washington ($4.009), Alaska ($4.370) and Hawaii ($4.619). I can understand the higher prices to some extent in these other places, especially Alaska, Hawaii and California. What makes Michigan (followed by Illinois, Ohio and Indiana) so expensive? I think the oil companies CLAIM it's the distribution, but these three ARE IN THE MIDDLE of the f'ing country! Or is the paths of the pipelines screwed up as bad as the oil companies themselves?
All I've got to say is they're all a bunch of greedy bastards. I mean really. Why is gas so much more expensive in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana than say Oklahoma ($3.281) or Texas ($3.289)? I know your answer, "it's because these states have local rigs supplying oil for refinement", right? Then why is it so much cheaper in Iowa ($3.374)?
You cross ONE state line (Illinois to Iowa) and the price drops almost $0.50 a gallon (on average today)? Cross another (Missouri to Oklahoma)and it drops another $0.10? Really, explain this you greedy bastards!
[/RANT]
Sorry guys. It just pisses me off the way the oil companies screw everyone over the price of gas. I mean really. If you look at today's averages, it goes from $3.063 in South Carolina to $4.009 in Washington state (ignoring Alaska and Hawaii for "obvious reasons"). That's a spread of just short of a dollar a gallon! Or put it another way, that's about a 33% increase going from SC to WA! What's the explanation for this?
What appalls me even more is that people put up with this sh!# because "What choice do we have?" It's all BS if you ask me. They (the oil companies) are robbing us blind and all we have to say is, "What choice do we have?" Pussies. I say it's high time we stand up to these bastards and tell them we know what they're doing.

They (the oil companies) are robbing us blind and all we have to say is, "What choice do we have?" Pussies. I say it's high time we stand up to these bastards and tell them we know what they're doing. Its supply and demand. Even around here...$3.30 today at the stations the locals use. If you use the station off the hwy exit, its $3.85. Gas NORMALLY goes UP at the Summer driving season's start...but its going DOWN instead, I think because the gulf's been a bit calmer, etc. So, wealthier areas, and areas where people "With no choice" are passing through, they gouge your eyes out...in more rural off the beaten path areas, they can't (or they would), as there are too many choices. Remember that MOST stations are owned by a franchise...so, some dude who owns it raises and lowers the prices based on what he thinks he can get away with. Some are under oil company, or a larger franchise's control, etc...like Turnpike rest stops, etc..where they are only ALLOWED to CHANGE the prices once per week...maximum. So THEY take a guess as to what the "right" price will be for the coming week, and then they are all in. If prices go up higher than they thought, they can have the cheapest gas around...and if they drop more, well, they are HIGH, and so forth.

Here in Lafayette, LA we are getting REG unleaded from $3.21 to $3.31.
Now No ethanol I am paying $3.41-$3.55.
I am now pretty much running straight gas after years of 10% ethanol. Performance and mph are up.
