Wow... talk about bringing a thread back from the dead!

It's just hitting $4 here in Vegas. I can still find it for about $3.85 at a couple places.

But... I went from an Xterra that averaged about 15mpg to a Mazda that I just managed 29mpg on my last tank. Makes a WORLD of difference.

I think it's ridiculous that people were blaming Bush just as it's ridiculous that they are blaming Obama.

It went from about $1.50 to over $4 under Bush in the exact same amount of time it has gone from $1.85 to just about $4 under Obama. Neither one has had much to do with the change in prices (up or down). It's Iran, it's speculators, it's China and India.

Whah! Here in Michigan it's now at $3.86. It's been hovering between about $3.70-$3.90 for a couple months now.

And no, it's not Obama. It's the speculators. The price of oil is actually down right now. Last I checked it's at about $85-90 a barrel. That's about the same per barrel as when we were paying $2 a gallon.

What pisses me off is that the price of gas is not based on supply and demand as they claim, but rather on what they THINK it will be 3 months down the road. So we're paying artificially inflated prices for gas, people are bitching about it left and right and the oil companies then quietly report record profits every quarter.

Idaho is 3.75 per gallon, when I drove to Salt Lake this last weekend I found it was 3.52 there. Can't hardly afford to drive the Xterra anymore, especially since I am only getting 14.8 mpg in my 2006 right now.

So WTF? Michigan ($3.832 average) is only outpriced by Oregon ($3.995), California ($4.002), Washington ($4.009), Alaska ($4.370) and Hawaii ($4.619). I can understand the higher prices to some extent in these other places, especially Alaska, Hawaii and California. What makes Michigan (followed by Illinois, Ohio and Indiana) so expensive? I think the oil companies CLAIM it's the distribution, but these three ARE IN THE MIDDLE of the f'ing country! Or is the paths of the pipelines screwed up as bad as the oil companies themselves?

All I've got to say is they're all a bunch of greedy bastards. I mean really. Why is gas so much more expensive in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana than say Oklahoma ($3.281) or Texas ($3.289)? I know your answer, "it's because these states have local rigs supplying oil for refinement", right? Then why is it so much cheaper in Iowa ($3.374)?

You cross ONE state line (Illinois to Iowa) and the price drops almost $0.50 a gallon (on average today)? Cross another (Missouri to Oklahoma)and it drops another $0.10? Really, explain this you greedy bastards!

[/RANT]

Sorry guys. It just pisses me off the way the oil companies screw everyone over the price of gas. I mean really. If you look at today's averages, it goes from $3.063 in South Carolina to $4.009 in Washington state (ignoring Alaska and Hawaii for "obvious reasons"). That's a spread of just short of a dollar a gallon! Or put it another way, that's about a 33% increase going from SC to WA! What's the explanation for this?

What appalls me even more is that people put up with this sh!# because "What choice do we have?" It's all BS if you ask me. They (the oil companies) are robbing us blind and all we have to say is, "What choice do we have?" Pussies. I say it's high time we stand up to these bastards and tell them we know what they're doing.

Its supply and demand.

Even around here...$3.30 today at the stations the locals use. If you use the station off the hwy exit, its $3.85.

Gas NORMALLY goes UP at the Summer driving season's start...but its going DOWN instead, I think because the gulf's been a bit calmer, etc.

So, wealthier areas, and areas where people "With no choice" are passing through, they gouge your eyes out...in more rural off the beaten path areas, they can't (or they would), as there are too many choices.

Remember that MOST stations are owned by a franchise...so, some dude who owns it raises and lowers the prices based on what he thinks he can get away with.

Some are under oil company, or a larger franchise's control, etc...like Turnpike rest stops, etc..where they are only ALLOWED to CHANGE the prices once per week...maximum.

So THEY take a guess as to what the "right" price will be for the coming week, and then they are all in.

laugh

If prices go up higher than they thought, they can have the cheapest gas around...and if they drop more, well, they are HIGH, and so forth.

Here in Lafayette, LA we are getting REG unleaded from $3.21 to $3.31.

Now No ethanol I am paying $3.41-$3.55.

I am now pretty much running straight gas after years of 10% ethanol. Performance and mph are up.
