Who is interested in going a camping trip on the weekend of 4/12-13? (I've already contacted a few peopel, but finally decided to ask/post here as well...)

I wish I were headed to GONEMoad, instead. But, things didn't work out for me, so I will have to stay in CA and find something else to do.

A book I bought about a couple months ago lists some interesting trails (easy ones mostly [Smoking] ), and I started planning a weekend trip.

I know it's still a bit early for wheeling season, so the purpose of the trip is to enjoy...
1. scenic drive in the mountain,
2. camping
3. maybe little challenges, but nothing serious. wink
(Trails should not be difficult...I might be able to go through most of them in 2wd  )

The location is south of Yosemite NP (outside of NP)....the nearest city/town would be Oakhurst.

I've been checking the weather forecast, and actually it might rain that weekend. If that's the case, I am simply changing it to the weekend of 19-20.

If you are interested, now is your chance to let me know... smile

I think I can escape, but only for a day, the 13th. If it works out I may just make a long day trip out of it and try and catch up with you guys.

I'll just play it by ear at this point. smile

I know you told me that, but how about the weekend of 19-20? confused As I said, if it's raining on 12-13, the trip is not going to be much fun and will be shifted to 19-20.

Is 13th the only day you can possibly come out and play? wink

Well, the weather does not look too good. It only wants to rain on weekend. So, for now, this trip is going to be postponed to the weekend of 4/19-20. smile

Well, I should have known better. This coming weekend is Easter Sunday... shocked I guess it's not that good time to go camping (away from your family). So, even thought I still want to visit the Sierras as soon as I can, I will have to wait until the weekend after, which is 26-27.

Now what I want to find out is what might be the elevation that you'd start seeing snow on the ground. Since I'm not a hardcore outdoor kind of guy, so I'd like some dry ground to put out a tent. Does anyone know the current snow level? According to the snow level, I might have to find some other trails that are located lower elevation... [Smoking]

I would look at areas <6k'. We got some at ~4500' in Reno. They just got a ton of snow at Lake level this past weekend and the storm hit areas all the way to Bridgeport.

Charlie, thanks for the info.

So, between 4,500~6,000 ft. level...what kind of snow is it? Is it a few feet deep snow? Or, is it just barely covering up the ground?

It could be anything from a dusting to 3'. I tried a run up to a spot north of Reno (Crystal Peak) recently and couldn't get much above 5,500', but I wasn't aired down and I had Grabbers on at the time. I maybe could have kept going, but one goof where I was and you have a looooonnnngg trip to the bottom eek They got a solid 3' at Lake level. Higher up I would imagine they got more.

I'm done with snow...bring on the shorts and iced-tea laugh

Yea...that's why I'm now looking into trails that are located fairly in the lower elevation...suggested by Charlie. smile

I am toying with the idea to hit the slopes this weekend. I know its crazy to be skiing with fresh snow in (very) late April, but this is my last chance for the year.

Watching the weather and crossing my fingers.
