I have a feeling a bunch of you NCCX guys and gals have the week between Christmas and New Years off, so how about a day trip somewhere?

I'm open on days, possibly do Wed 12/27? And I'm also open to places, heck I'll even go to Hollister...

I'd do Hollister, but would be more interested in something up HWY4 or something up along the coast for the new category.

There are a ton of forest roads off of Highway 4 that might be intresting with snow on them.

Hello everyone.

I'll be in Bay Area for the week of X-mas and was looking to explore some basic trails. Quite possibly join you guys up on 27th too. How hard is the trail? I am fully stock with stock side rails and absolutely new to off-roading

While on the subject, what easy or relatively easy trails are there in the vicinity of Bay Area that you would recommend to try out? Thanks for your input!

I am tentatively in. With my two boys Joe And Roy.
Can I do this in my stocker with Sliders . I have chains as well. Huey could you give me a rough idea about gear and mods needed?

For those wondering about what type of wheeling we will see, I can't honestly say as we will be doing trails that look passable. Which means any stock 4x4 should be fine for this. Just remove your step rails if you still have them on. Oh and bring any and all recovery gear you will need it.

Most of snow wheeling is about breaking trail so we may be doing that all day. Xterras are to heavy to "float" over snow and our skinny tires dont help. Consider it a fun easy day in the slippery stuff.

You can check out Hollister (www.hollisterhills.com). It's a park so trails are marked for difficulty.

Everybody absolutely must have recovery points front and rear. So that means at least tow hook(s) in the front and a hitch receiver in the rear.

Shovels. Folding and full size.

Waterproof clothes and/or a change of clothes.

Be prepared to stay out there several days...sleeping bags, food, water, firestarting stuff. Think Oregon.

A snow sled and rope. Use your imagination...

Camera.

Just out of curiosity, why remove the step rails?

Cause they look like smashed coke cans after you bump into something.

ETA: We usually use FRS Channel 8 (no sub-code) and CB 22.

You don't need to do this with you're pathfinder though.
