Slick Rock and Deer Valley 6/19-20
----------------------------------------

Slick Rock (Rated a 5, but sometimes a 6)

Deer Valley (Rated a 6-7 for the direction we will be going)

Ratings can be refered to here:
http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/naxc/vpost?id=41

*Please read the rating descriptions closely before attempting this trip.

The snow is melting and I have a good feeling the trails should either be completely open or close to it. Worst case scenario we do Slick Rock and as much of Deer Valley as we can.

Sat:
-----------------
-8am Meet at the Pleasanton McDonalds
-9:30-10 Meet in Angels Camp for some quick shopping for food and grab a fire permit.
-12ish we should be at the Slick Rock trail head (southeast side)

-From there we will run Slick Rock and 1/2 of Deer Valley
-camp out.

Sun:
-----------------
-Run Deer Valley out (either to HWY4 or HWY88)
-Head home

FRS 7 Sub 7

8am at the Pleasanton McDonalds
6800 SANTA RITA RD
PLEASANTON, CA 94588

9:30 - 10am in Angels Camp (at Burger King)
290 South Main Street
Angels Camp, CA 95222

I can do Sat or Sunday. Unfortunately I can't do both (or camp). Is Saturday a doable day trip? If so, I'm in.

Yes, definitely; but be prepared to get home well after dark. The trail(s) are about 3 hours from Tracy.

I know this would be a family time for some people but many of us could still go. I would think. Of course I'm free almost every weekend (sad isn't it)

You're right Patrick, no time is a "good" time. I'm now thinking about making it a day trip with the option of an overnighter. Let me think about this a bit and I'll post later about dates, times, and options... smile

Ok, trip is back on with nothing changed.

If anyone would like to join us for the Day, Sat would be best. You could run Slick Rock with us and then decide how much of Deer valley you would like to do. I would like to warn you that Slick Rock will be about a 3 hour trail and Deer Valley is best run with someone that knows the trail (you will want a buddy to run it out with you) and it's quite long.

And I have to contest the trail rating system! smile I took the pictures for levels 8 and 9, and neither of those vehicles meet the reccomended "build" level!

I'd like to suggest the following:

#8 - 4WD Hard+
Vehicles : 3" lift, bald 32" all terrain tires, "pucker" mark on front drivers seat

#9 - 4WD Extreme
Vehicles : 2.5" lift, 32" all terrain tires, unibody, "broken-tailight" modification

Still can't belive Dean drove out of #9.

See you guys on the 19th!

Hahah! You know what they say:
Good 4-wheeling is 90% driver and 10% truck. ... OK, maybe more like 90% luck and 10% truck. The driver is just along for the ride. :p

Hey, luck has nothing to do with it! We're just super-bad ass drivers... err... ok, so luck probably is a factor. smile

Are you coming on the 19th/20th trip? We might have to winch Huy out of a snowbank again.

Do we want to do anything about coordinating food -or anything else- this time? I could be in charge of the jiffy-pop [LOL] (what a failure that was) :p

We just got back from passing over Carson Pass and it still has a few patchers of snow in the north facing areas at about Blue Lakes turn off elevation. Nothing that should stop you intrepid explorers though.
Have a safe trip!

[ThumbsUp] I finally have a free weekend. Is there going to be a Saturday only run or are we going to camp along the trail, where it would easier just to stay the night, rather than trying to come down off the trail Saturday Night?

Hi Barber. The schedule is to run Slick Rock on Saturday and then 1/2 of Deer Valley, camping on the trail Saturday night. Sunday we will run the rest of Deer Valley and drive home. If you want to just run Slick Rock and then turn around and head home, you could.... but seems like a long drive out there and back for just a couple hours of wheeling. (roughly 4 hours to get there, maybe 3 hours of wheeling, 4 hours to get back home ?) BTW be sure to check out the links to the ratings for these trails at the beginning of this thread. These specific trails aren't for everyone.

Well, my Xterra has a mild (2.5" suspension) lift with BF Mud Terrain (31's) tires. Not a lot of mods, but enough to play...although I need some rock sliders. I've been on lots of trail runs with friends, nothing more than a "5" on the rating system though. So, even though this is only my second run with the NCCX, I would call myself an experinced beginner, if there is such a thing. Let me know if you think I could make it, without any major damage...

And I have no problem spending the night, I just told my girlfriend that I would ask about the day trip...you know how it is. wink
