Well it's that time of the year again! Here's the info I have so far:

Nissan Xterra USA Championship
September 25

Incline Village
Lake Tahoe, CA

It's going to be very similar to last year, highlights include:

-event shirt and goodies
-Xterra contest (with trophies)
-off-road excursion
-lunch provided

Plus much more. Last year there was a climbing wall, Xterra RC cars, massages, etc...

Janet informed me that the Big Bear event in So. Cal has 30 vehicles signed up (a new record!). We need to beat that number!!! smile

Please sign-up as early as you can so I can let Janet know how many vehicles to expect and so I can try to figure out something for camping/lodging.

Is my Pathfinder welcome? wink

If we don't run Dusy on the weekend before, I'll go.

Would we camp at Zephyr Cove, like last year? If there's going to be a larger turnout, we'd need to make reservations pretty soon.

We should plan an easy trail run (even 2WD-friendly, such as Genoa Peak ) on Saturday afternoon, and a more advanced run (i.e. Barker Pass OHV) on Sunday morning. *Note: there is an easier version of the Barker Pass route, which doesn't require driving over Dollar Hole obstacle, effectively making that run stock 4WD-friendly. (I think that's the route that Greg took last year.)

Dean, ofcourse your Pathy is welcome, as with any other Nissan truck or SUV.

So I was thinking about Zephyr Cove for this year also, but it really depends on the group size. How does everyone feel about undeveloped camping vs. developed camping? Undeveloped would be free (obviously) but no bathrooms and other simple accomidations, but it would be easier to arrange. Developed camping would require more planing and I'd need to know ahead of time an approx car count so let me know if you are considering the event. smile

About the wheeling, I agree with Barker. There will be two groups; modified will run Barker OHV, and stock will run Barker Loop and the area. For Sat I'm up for suggestions or what Dean suggested will work for me.

Yeah if you can squeeze in a stock friendly run like Genoa Peak or the Barker Loop Run (you can also make a stock friendly run on this loop to the Ellis Peak lookout) on Saturday you can count me in.....as of now that date is clear on my calendar.

1. Huey (fairly sure I will go)
2. Sean
3. Kenny ("KJ" - Pretty sure) I know a GREAT Sushi place in North Lake.
4. Slamson00....no camping up and back Saturday

Dunno, we were close to that in Richmond earlier this year. Don't remember the exact number, but it was a good turnout.

Hi guys!
It sounds like a blast, but I'm not sure yet. If I do go, I won't do any runs. I'm trying to convince someone to come with me!

***Edit***

Don't reserve your space quite yet...I need to figure out trails and may change the camping location. I'll post an update tonight or tomorrow.

There seem to be quite a few spaces open still. Each space can fit two vehicles so if you want to pair up with another member and book one spot that would work best.

***Link delted for now***

If you don't want to camp with the group, there are many hotes around Tahoe. For refernce our camp spot is in South-East Lake, so a South Lake hotel would work...or if you are tight on cash you can do a search for primative camping, there are spots near Barker that will work.

I just reviewed a map of Lake Tahoe, and it occurred to me that Barker Pass is completely on the other side of the lake from Zephyr Cove. If we participate in the event in Incline Village, we will need to drive all the way to Tahoma to run Barker Pass, then circle back around to Zephyr Cove to camp. That looks like a lot of driving to me. Perhaps it's better to run Genoa Peak on Saturday instead of Barker.

[edit: I checked campsite availability at DLBliss and SugarPine, but they're already booked.]

Where are we camping? Zephyr Cove ? It's the only campground that still has sufficient space. We probably wouldn't have time to run the easy version of Barker on Saturday if we camp at Zephyr, so we should probably try Genoa Peak instead (which is 2WD-friendly).

Zephyr Cove campsite map:

I just reserved campsites for myself and others as noted below. If you plan to camp, when making your reservation at Zephyr Cove , please refer to the map on the previous page of this thread to find a suitable (and if possible, adjacent) campsite. Cost per campsite (2 vehicle/6 person max) is $31. It is likely that the beginners' trail run for Saturday afternoon will be Genoa Peak . A more advanced run on the Barker Pass trail will occur on Sunday prior to leaving the Lake Tahoe area. The minimum requirements for this trail are: all-terrain tires and lift. Sliders are highly recommended.

Please copy and paste the list below and make corrections as needed.

Thanks!

Campers:
1. Huey (reserved site #20)
2. Matt and the jalopy (sharing site #20)

For cost calculation purposes, each campsite reservation costs $31 for one vehicle. Extra vehicles are charged an additional $5 (2-vehicle max).

So if you double-up on the campsites, you each save $31-$36/2 , or $13

Huey can probably provide more details on meeting times/places for this year's event. Last year that I arrived later in the morning because I had to pick up a truck part at 9am in Rancho Cordova. Here\'s the original thread from last year.

Caravans to Tahoe can be arranged as we close in on the date.

I just reserved campsites for myself and others as noted below. If you plan to camp, when making your reservation at Zephyr Cove, please refer to the map on the previous page of this thread to find a suitable (and if possible, adjacent) campsite. Cost per campsite (2 vehicle/6 person max) is $31. It is likely that the beginners' trail run for Saturday afternoon will be Genoa Peak. A more advanced run on the Barker Pass trail will occur on Sunday prior to leaving the Lake Tahoe area. The minimum requirements for this trail are: all-terrain tires and lift. Sliders are highly recommended.

Please copy and paste the list below and make corrections as needed.

Thanks!

As Dean stated those will be the trails for this year. If you don't have sliders and don't want to do Barker OHV on Sun, we can make arnagements for a group to run Barker Pass and some other trails in the area. Just let me know if there is interest for that.

BTW, below are my pics from last year for the event and pics from Barker OHV so you can see what you are up against.

That's Pleasant Hill not Pleasanton, FYI. It would suck for you to be waiting at Mickey D's on Santa Rita Rd, when the rest of us will be waiting at the old Montgomery Ward's parking lot at I-680/Monument Blvd in Pleasant Hill/Concord.

Robert-

Subject to passenger capacity, ride-alongs are always welcome when newbies/stockers would like to experience tougher 4-wheeling from the security and safety of a more capable vehicle. The only logistical issue would be where to park your truck so it's easy to pick up after the run.

I'll have room in the jalopy (secure and safe??) if people need rides, and we can probably park people's trucks in the staging area at beginning of the trail.

A few quick notes...

We can decide about Sun when the event comes. We can either do ride-alongs for Barker OHV or arrange for an easier run for Barker Loop.

Also no need to bring/shop for food unless you want to. All meals can be bought as we will be close to stores and retuarants. smile

BTW dave5434, you can meet us in Truckee, but I think it would be easier to park somewhere on Route 28 in Incline and listen for us on FRS8 at around 10am (there is a chance we will be there at 9:30 depending on traffic).

Come on out on September 26 and run Barker Pass with us. You just might get a chance to use those lockers. Depending on who attends the "advanced" run we may even decide to run out to Observation Point and back.[/b]
I thought this was a Nissan only event? I didn't want to crash your party. If a toyota is welcome then I just might join you guys. If not, then no problem...

Dave I sent you a Private Message with my moble number. Just give me a call that Sat and we'll meet up with ya. smile

Steve, you are more than welcome to join us on Sun. Sat, is a semi-Nissan only event. You can hang out with us on sat, but won't be able to enter your Toy in the show and shine contest. You can however hang out with us, attend the event, get a free lunch and schwag, and do the wheeling trip with us. Just be sure to arrive with the group.

What's Up Dave - I'm a stocker aswell, I'm like 12 miles from Vallejo, but most likely will caravan with the group with a little back tracking (which I don't mind). I'll be heading (maybe) back to the Bay Area on Sunday before the run, so if you like we can caravan back together if you decided not to ride along on the sunday run.

--------------------
Thanks for the offer may take you up on that, may follow to at least the bottom of the hill then we can split off, Roseville's not that far from the bottom.

You're in dood! [ThumbsUp]

cep' that it is not really neccessary that you give your cell phone # like that (I would delete it ASAP), who knows an asswipe might call you and tells you that the event was cancelled. PM Huey for details on how to meet up.

Here's a nifty trick for the Best Xterra of Show contest...you don't need a highly modded X to win as a matter of fact mods mean nothing. What they are looking for is an extremely clean X. You then get extra points for out door gear and mods attached. So if you have bike racks, bikes, canoes, camping gear, etc...you can earn big points. Keep in mind if you are camping you will need to safely store this stuff and if you are wheeling, it will need to be tightly secured!

That's right, you get big points if your X has nary a bug splat, and the tires are all dressed up. It's a car show; the more bling, the better. (If you have a modded but dirty X, it won't be as worthy as a cherried out, sparkling stock X.)

Last year, only Akio had recently washed his truck, and it looked nice! Huey and Andy both had theirs in the show, but they were dirty (especially Andy's which looked more dust-colored than black). Akio won by a long shot.

Since we're not bringing food preparation supplies with us, use that extra space for armor-all and windex! wink

[LOL] Yea... Huey got the 1st for having a not too dirty truck w/ a long list of mods. I got the 2nd for having a shiny truck w/ a couple of mods listed, and Andy got the 3rd for having a dirty truck w/ lots of mods listed.

So, if you want to win, make sure that your truck is VERY clean as Dean said. laugh

Well, I think between the 3 of us we should be ok, but I'm not sure what ataboy is doing.

If it comes down to it, I really don't care where I stay, I've been known to sleep in the truck at rest stops.

Edit: re-read it this morning and it didn't sound right. Changed.

Since I have never camped there before... Are we allowed to have fire in the ring at this particular campground? And, do we get to collect fire wood from the site?

'Cause it'll be super cold w/o fire! [Uh Oh !]

Yes.

There's not really enough laying around to collect, although last year we burned a few softball-sized pine cones that we picked up around the campground. Firewood is available for purchase on-site, but if anyone has some they're willing to bring, it would probably be much appreciated!

Yeah, it's gonna be cold!

That's what I thought... I'll have some firewood...but...

Does anyone have a chainsaw? Can you bring it to the trip? You can come over to our site for real fire, instead of pine cone fire. laugh

For those meeting in Incline try to find a hangout spot at the intersection of Southwood Blvd and HWY28. I'll be calling Dave5434, SuperJ, Jean, Jay and Ataboy (Ataboy, please email or PM me your cell number). Look for the group to roll in between 9:30 and 10.

See everyone else in Pleasant Hill.

I'll try to get my friend to bring his sawzall. Not sure if he's going to go for it though.

I've been sick this week and the time in the car doesn't sound apealing at this point. I'm sorry I will need to back out of this trip. My camping space is paid for and free to be used.
