Yea... It's mostly "enjoy scenic drive and camping" kind of trip. :rolleyes: If you're looking for challenges, this isn't it.

I'm trying to see a little more piece of Sierra before snow covers it all...

I was planning on going up that way tomorrow as well. My Uncle in his Jeep and myself were planning on running the Gold Lakes trail (I think #27) out of that same book. I liked the Poker Flat trail but the 8 hour driving time added to the 2.5 hours just to get to the trailhead kept me from going on that one.

Unfortuneatley my Uncle backed out on me due to the storm and the current closure of I-80 going east. Would have been fun.

BTW, I'm not sure where Downieville is, but there are some serious reports of snow storm action up in the sierras this weekend, so keep an eye out on the weather. It's going to be COLD!

Remember a while back you and I talked about going up and running some of the North Coast trails out of that same book? I think it was the Pacfic Ridge trail and the Lovelady Ridge trail. I would be interested in doing that sometime in the near future since those trails are open all winter long? Might be a good winter club run for the day.

Total 10.5 hours just to get to the trail head? That would be little too much...

Gold Lake would be little more Northeast from Downieville, and about 3,000 ft higher up...

Downieville is @ about 3,200 ft., and the trail goes up to 6,000 ft or so... If I trusted weather.com, there'd be no snow to worry about...

...I remember discussing about it, but I don't remember the name of the trails... They do sound familiar, though. I don't have the book with me right now... If it or they are open all year, then, yea...winter club run would be fun...

No not 10.5 hours to get to the trailhead. I was just saying that it is about a 2 hour drive just to get to where the trail starts. THen the book states the trail takes 8 hours to run. With daylight savings time that is why I turned my attention to the Gold Lake run which looks like a lot of fun.

The Gold Lake run is rated a 4 out of 10, but then you can take the Snake Hill spur which was rated about a 7, and the site I saw the trail write up on said you better have a locker to run this trail which drops 500 ft in elevation over a 1/4 of a mile. See here:

Anyway.....I was also looking at trail runs in the norther Sierra portion of that book (which I happen to have here at work) #43 and #44. Those also look like they would be good winter runs due to their lower elevation, and #44 is rated a 6 out of 10....about my limit but may actually interest some of our Rubicon runners.....but then again probably not. lol

Anyway......I am interested in any of these low elevation winter runs if we ever decide to tackle any of these

Who didn't guess? Yep, we didn't go. Right about I was ready to start packing my truck last night, Catherine told me that she didn't want to go because it could be not only super cold, but also the ground could be wet.

Seeing a very nice, clear ski this morning, I regret that I didn't try harder to convince her to go, but... oh, well...

BUT, since she'll be out of town next weekend, I'd like to go out as long as the weather permits. I think I'm going to look for a trail that is @ a bit lower elevation to avoid wet ground and snow... Stay tuned. :rolleyes:
