However...Our campsite will be along an easier portion of the Rubicon-McKinney Springs trail, so reaching the campsite will not be an issue for stock vehicles.
For the trail run we'll do on Sunday, a mile or so beyond the campsite, the first difficult obstacle, called Dollar Hole (shown in
this photo ) will prevent stock vehicles from proceeding. (In a past trip, some of us even required winching.) Observation Point (shown in
this photo ) is a couple miles beyond, but takes about an hour to reach.
Fortunately, just before the Dollar Hole obstacle, there is a turnoff that is quite passable to stock vehicles. It heads up to the Barker Pass summit for some incredible views. Plus, there's a really fun trail that heads down from the end of the parking area at Barker Pass. You might have to look around for the trailhead signpost; it's not obvious.
