so in the torential downpour my wife made me drive out into tonight I could feel the backend trying to break out. So I put it in 4Hi got some better traction slowed down and made it safely to our destination. Most of the way there the rain slacked off so I put it back into 2Hi. The indicator light sorta went out.

Basically it dimmed. Thinking/knowing that my hubs were still locked I dismissed it till I had a chance to unlock the hubs. Once home I went through the backup etc procedure to unlock the hubs and the light didn't change.

It's obviously dimmer than when 4wd is engaged. If I put it into 4Hi or 4lo the light definatly comes on (strong) but going back into 2hi it doesn't completely go off.

Is this anything to worry about? Did I do something incorrectly? Is the light on crack?

Thanks

Sounds like the wiring for the switch is partially shorted. I know a bunch of peeps here have had this happen, the wiring rubs on a bracket and eventually causes all sorts of problems with the dash lighting. Get up under the truck and look at the wiring for the switch, it is found on the t-case.

I think a search may bring up a few leads.

BTW, the light has nothing to do with the operation of the hubs. It is actuated by the mechanism in the transfer case itself, and when you pull the lever back to 2wd it will go out, provided nothing is broken or shorted.

Sounds like the switch may be partially engaged, not providing a complete circuit.

If you can unplug the switch, and the light goes out completely, then I'd change the switch out.

But, if you unplug the switch, and nothing changes, then it's a wiring issue.

I had the same symptoms after a muddy offroading trip once. After I cleaned the underside of the truck it went away.

This happened to me at 10000 miles. The 4wd sensor on the transfer case went south. I had it replaced under warranty.
